Right so how do I know what weight is on the ball hitch ? I could move the crusher forward or backwards to give me the correct figure when I know how to calculate it. HELP NEEDED ON THIS SUBJECT the recommended hitch weight when connected to my car is 60 kgs, so maybe its possible to use household weighing scales to weigh the loaded trailer on the hitch .

That parts list is brilliant priced up bearings today but much cheaper on ebay . I thought if I used a sealed one in the middle that can replace the seal that’s gone .

So looks like I need gear MT17 and Arm MT103 for gear change , the only other thing is the outer rim on one wheel has a big chunk out of it .

I managed to get the engine running after a couple of days , the piston rings were stuck and a clean around the mag got a spark but after a night soaking the rings she ran quiet nice ,the exhaust is missing but I can make one up and there is no air cleaner and the carb is mounted straight on the barrel unlike all other photo’s I have seen of these .

For more info I put two pics: the american engine and a being restored english. You easily can see the differences. On the american one you cannot see the pump, hiden by the main chassis board

    Charlie,

Thanks for that the spring and tine went together. It’s good when you know how. Do you have any idea’s on conversion to standard rotavator blades?

    Thank you

    Hello Peter

I own a Gravely model D since I was born as my Grandpa bought her in 1939.Th oil pump is a problem as the original american models Dhad the pump inside the big plate, just close to the big wheel and, later the english made models D had the oil pump outside the crancase, protected by a little hood in the left side of the tractor. Do you understand what I mean?
Anyway the tractor needs only one pump, so don’t worry. Just watch if oil is turning back to the tank, taking off the cap and watching if oil is running from a higher pipe in the tank. If oil runs, no problem.

You can find infos about models D through the Gravely Tractor Club of America (manuals) or through the English Rural Museum in Reading University (contact Danielle Kristy Mills).
    best regards
    André

just checked the spec sheet for engine. 176 kgs a lot less than I originally quoted so we could be a lot safer than I thought. thanks angus for your concerns. I can say this that if I jump on the rear of the trailer I can make the jockey wheel come off the ground so its not far from being balanced. I weigh 84.8 kgs and that’s fully clothed. and without my wallet !

I have dropped a clutch spring from the albion gearbox. Anyone know where I can get a replacement?

Good point that Charlie and thanks. Now the engine weighs 450 kgs and the crusher weighs in at 200 kgs. the crusher is 1ft rear of the back axel and the engine is at the front of the trailer. I thought about weight transfer on the length of the trailer and two thirds should be on tow hich end and a third rear of back axel. so we are nearly there. I realise about the concern over the height of the engine in relation to the trailer floor and will proceed with caution. thanks again for this queery.

    Hi Charlie ,
Split the gear cases today and drew the gear of the shaft . I had a poke about to check for other damage but up to now not found any .
What is unusual is the chain cases are made of wood but look a very good job so could they be original ?
So up to now I need a gear , the gear change crank lever and a set of bearings and oil seal for the clutch shaft , I don’t half pick em .
I managed to free off the seized rotorvator.
I only got photo of damaged gear will try and get you some more . Swampy .
