Bullfinch or Bulldog? What are the main differences? If it is a rare machine I don’t want to start chopping and changing.

    Thank you Andy,

It was the handle bars that were throwing me off!

I am tempted to do a basic service and see if runs, if it does why not keep using it. As they say ā€œif it ain’t broke don’t fix itā€.

    Regards

    Aaron

All running now. Amazingly it sat in a field under a tree for probably 10 years and it started 2nd pull and runs sweet as anything. Blades spin and stop as they should, drive works great as well. Just the new rollers to drill out, varnish and fit. Then decide if I go the whole hog and paint it or leave it as is. Either way, it will go to work now and hopefully last a few more years.

Wristpin Sir you are a genius !! Decided to have a look today and did exactly as you said. The plate was rusted on the friction caps so had to clean all that up too. The grub screw snapped but got a cap head in there instead of. Built it back up and adjusted the ball in further and all works as it should ! Can now roll the mower about which is a huge relief on my back. Got to go turn some new ash rollers now and then attack the carb.

Thank you so much for your help….without you it was going in the skip 😁

Wristpin not sure if you can help with this. I’ve fitted a new clutch cable that Jon in Hailsham made up for me, but when I’ve shortened it as far as the threaded barrel will allow, it’s not pulling up far enough to pull the arm against the pin that was seized. Can’t move the mower cos everything is locked up and won’t rotate. Any idea if the pin is worn and now not long enough to be pushed on by the clutch arm or pin is still slightly seized and not poking out far enough or maybe the arm is worn and not wide enough to engage with the pin? Tried googling what the pin length should be but nothing comes up using Webb’s old part numbers. Sorry long question, but at the mo I’m stumped as to what to next ! Cheers.

    Nice one thank you.
Managed to get the pin free and it now moves the gear plate back and forth as it should 😁

Just gotta get it started now.

    Good evening.
Small update on my little project. I finally managed to prepare all the tin wear and paint it over last weekend (temperatures >15 deg.C). I replaced a few more gaskets (oil plug, fuel tap etc.), checked any for any leak and finally got it to run for 5 minutes. It runs well. Still need to finalise and install the pulley and the 2 supports on the shroud.
I’d like to use this engine to power a gen set: any recommendation for a gen set that would fit and where I could find a good second hand?
    Cheers

Thanks for the reply, Just weighed the aerator and its 30 pounds ish. I did try it out a couple of days ago in the back garden but it was pretty useless as the lawn is very soft after all the rain and the steel tines just sunk into the ground, it was like trying to pull a stubborn donkey hehe. At a guess l think it might date from around the 40’s, not sure whether it’s worth anything or will l dump it…..Rick.

Good morning. Got engine off now secured by several bolts to clutch housing also got the cylinder head off now. Piston seized to cylinder liner might take the route of breaking it for spares now.
    if parts are mechanically sound.
    regards Scooby.
