    Hi sidevalve@44
We also have one of these. I’ve attached picture of ours here with. I’m curious to get an idea of the value, do you mind me asking what you paid for the one you bought at the LVMS annual country fair and show?
These are nice machines, ours was well looked after by my grandparents still even have its box 🙂

I am glad we both agree on that , the only hole through to the bottom gear case is in the clutch housing where there should be no oil. I was thinking if there was a hole in the bottom of the worm chamber this would starve the worm and also overfill the lower gearcase. I think your advice to treat the chambers as separate gearboxes is the best going . Perhaps this explains the demise of the bearings and the worm and also the improvement in fitting the pumps to later models.

No problem Charlie, it’s just not quite the same as sitting in the conservatory with your feet up reading the hard copy. 🙂

Ordered the new parts from Paul at Meetens – what a great service from them. They don’t have the coils in stock right now so am going to try with the old one initially.

Spent the rest of the day cleaning the machine. Looking much better already but does need some paint. I’ll wait to see if it runs first. Totally dismantled the motor/belt adjustment to make it move at all. Working nicely now. Welded a nut onto the turned-down end of the flywheel bolt as well.

There’s no oil anywhere to be found (just some smelly emulsion) so some questions again:

Is the motor bottom end simply lubricated by the blow-back?
What grade oil are you all using in the gearboxes?
Are the little screws for fill level?
What fuel mix are you using? I see mention of 16:1 with 30 weight oil. Is this suitable?

    Thanks again,
    Jim

Has a very interesting starter motor
As seen in the pics its got a rachet to wind up a big spring, then its fired off to turn the engine, we have now had the engine running and managed to get it driving, it had previously been sat in A barn since 1986

    Have Mag engines

They seem to be going up in value so look after it!

    Excellent progress.
Flywheel removed after locking crank with a bit of old wood – what a clever arrangement for splitting a morse-tapered shaft.
Back plate with all electrical bits on removed ready for investigation. I’ll probably renew all the bits, but it does seem a shame to lose that lovely original Villiers coil.

So obviously, the position of the flywheel on the crank sets the timing. Is there a set-up guide somewhere to help me reposition it on assembly?

Thanks for all the advice so far,
    Jim

PS – I also have the option to get hold of 2x Howard GEMs. Are these worth having?

Hi Charlie, I was wondering how the oil reaches the bottom gear case when you fill the upper one ,I can not see a path for the oil.

    Swampy.

Hi Charlie, I haven’t got mine yet Charlie but I did have problem with my last copy I had to shout out, I think it’s because they don’t know where Lancashire is, or how to spell it.
