vhgmcbuddyMemberDispite snowy showers have battled against the elements to mount the engine and crusher. Not an easy task to do on your own,but a chap was passing by on his bike and I flagged him down. He asked what was the matter,i said if he was physicaly able could he help me on with the crusher. He was more than glad to help at first but by the end of the exercise he was that exhausted ,he pushed the bike home. Nice chap though wont ask him again as he may decline after this one.

vhgmcbuddyMemberThank you all for your replies. It seems to me that wear in the bearings and gears themselves must have built up to such a point that the side force produced by the misalignment overcomes the selector and ‘spits’ rotor selector drive gear out. I’ll have to split the chaincase and see what state the components are in.

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks Angus, As far as I can see from the parts diagram and by peering in through the selector opening there are no ‘dogs’ or other mechanical locking device to hold the rotor selector drive gear in position once it is engaged. The rotor selector drive gear and the idler are straight cut and the rotor selector drive gear slides on the shaft to mesh with the idler.
I would have expected to find some form of mechanical locking but I just cannot figure it out. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

vhgmcbuddyMemberYes a multimeter can test one. Set the resistance in ohms to 10,000 and then put one lead on agood clean earth on the coil. Put the other lead on coil pick up and the reading if okay should be between 5,000 or more.
