I found the copy of the leaflet for the Howard-Clifford 700 trailer on ebay. The same seller is also listing a copy of the 700 brochure, which I see states that the 700 can “be licensed for roadwork and will readily haul trailers up to 15 cwt at speeds up to 15 mph”

Right, so near but so far. I am still not getting a spark, I tried another spark plug pressed against the cylinder head in the dark with no success. I have replaced the points and regapped them, it has a new condenser and spark plug. Before I begin to suspect the winding itself could somebody please give me an exhaustive list of anything else I should check. It wouldn’t be fun if it wasnt a challenge but just occasionally it would be good if things worked first time.

    Hi,

Nope, it really doesn’t seem to exist any more.

Honda Nederlands just refurs to “go to your dealer”, but they obviously just like to sell you a new machinie, and do not take time to search. I am also pretty sure it doesn’t exist any more: Honda clearly states it is 1st replaced, and then sold out again.

I had no luck at that Mower Centre (John did try to help!) .

SparesBB claim they have the part, BUT: WARNING, this is a FAKE company that scams your creditcard!

So.. I’ll try to remake it, or have it remade… Just didn’t have the time to do so yet.

Are you sure that specific seal is broken?, there are many other places where it can leak 🙂

I am busy digitizing the partslista and shopmanual (which I bought now on paper).

I came across a Howard price list I have earlier, and listed as an approved attachment for the Bantam is a trailer built by James and Stone

Have you found this part yet or any good replacement? I need it for my Honda F80 aswell since the rotor leaks oil.

It could well have been a non-Howard item

I’ve found a starting handle on Fleabay that I can adjust to fit my Douglas engine.

Does anyone know the origional colour scheme used by Douglas on their industrial range of engines? mine has traces of Black on the engine casing and a light Blue on the cowling, can anyone confirm? (on another engine forum a user with the same engine as mine has traces of the same colour scheme)

At last after catching up on my jobs list I am back in the garage trying to get the ransomes started but no joy. I am not 100% sure that I have set the points properly so I will have a look at that again. Could somebody tell me what the points gap in the magneto should be please.

I have a wartime david brown aircraft tractor. They replaced the fordson model n for heavy work as they were not man enough to shift a bogged down aircraft being prone to clutch slip under heavy loads. The david brown was originally used in crawler form but as already stated they tended to damage the grass runways. They were returned to david brown and converted back to wheels. Mine has a torque converter transmission where gears are selected by braking the fluid flywheel via a hand lever. An 11000 lb winch also operates through the fluid transmission making everything smooth and controlled.
Although these tractors were designed for heavy four engined bombers I cannot see a ransomes tractor being used for even a light single seater fighter. I think it is just someone’s over active imagination.

That would be good and I would be grateful.

Thanks Charlie! I have an old puller that I can modify, I have the nut loose and have wound it flush to the end of the threads to protect the shaft. I will go start soaking it now!!

Well we are off to a good start! I have started the process of cleaning, soda blasting and priming. I have sourced bearings and seals. The main problem I have right now is how to release the flywheel from taper! My plan is to strip off the rear of the crankcase and place the remaining half in the press and push on the crankshaft. I am worried that I will blow the crankcase to bits in the process!! There is nowhere where I can place a puller. I have tried heat and shock with no cigar! Any advice is highly appreciated!
Thanks so much in advance. Once fully stripped and inspected I will start a new thread in projects!

    Many thanks for the info.

As for spares, nothing is readily available. You either need to cannibalise another engine, or have items manufactured. Pistons and rings did used to be available from Cox & Turner Engineering. For my engine, I had to make my own starting handle and mounting brackets for the fuel tank.

I’m concerned about spare parts availability, petrol tanks, starting handles, exhaust silencers ETC.

    Are spares still available anywhere?
