Hi Rambling Rabbit I had my flail mower going last week the new home made flails worked very well
I have a poor tyre and may think of trying to modify the wheel hubs to take another size wheel.
let me know how you are doing with yours, they are a great machine

Well all back at home now After a smashing weekend, we had a gigantic turnout of exhibits of over 263 exhibits to mark the 25th anniversary of the VHGMC !!! Great to see new exhibitors , some new to tractorfest and some first time exhibitors, and of course our regular exhibitors from as far as Belgium, Cumbria, stoke on Trent Norfolk, and devon all adding to the count . 38 entries to the arena with a children’s special. I would like to thank all exhibitors who attended as this would be impossible to acheive with out your efforts. I would like to give an extra thanks to Phil Murrell who managed to bring 85 Exhibits from his collection. A special thanks to Ethan Castle for setting up the howard theme that had a quite impressive line up. Tomorrow is the start of planning towards next year event which will feature dashwood/landmaster for th 17th and 18th of August 2019.
Once again many thanks to all for your support in making biddenden tractorfest the great show that it is, hope to see you all next year

    Peter,

Why don’t you have a crack at it yourself? I did a step by step photo guide in my 56a restoration post (https://vhgmc.co.uk/forums/topic/simar-56a-rototiller-serial-no-561621/page/2/). Most difficult bit for me was removing the drive gear, as you need to use a puller. I bought a cheap bearing puller set. I bought a new coil from The Brillman Company in the US, as even with shipping, VAT and import duty, it was still cheaper than buying in the UK, although the exchange rate was better at the time!! Coil is listed as being for a Wico C Series, but the C-Series used the same coil as the A Series.

Thanks. Alan. Did you find any reference to a gear driven Webb? I have had and do have many Webb mowers and they were all chain drive (except my Webb miniature which is driven by rubber belt !). I even have a Webb Lawntrimmer which is also chain driven (I think they are quite rare).

This Webb is interesting in that the front wooden roller shaft is actually a tube, with holes along its length and a grease nipple at the end. How’s that for design excellence ?
Also, It doesn’t have the usual Webb keenness of cut concentric adjusters. Instead, it has cast brass knobs as can be seen in the photo. These work a treat.
The last owner had it for about 45 years and he was given it after it had already had long service. So, it could be pre-war ?

    thanks all
have snowpeaked the timing marks to make it easier to check and all still seems to be good, degreased taper every time. andy are you thinking it may not be ‘sucking’ enough? this would surprise me as put hand over carb when running and it ‘sucks’ 🙂 . still puzzled why it would get worse when throttle goes above 2/3, makes me think too much air not enough fuel, does anyone agree? still open to any or all suggestions. will defiantly get this sorted. hopefully!!!

    quick update
have carried out timing check again and again pretty sure its good. have cleaned carb til it shines 🙂 but still no improvement. plug is new. latest thing i have noticed that after around 2/3 throttle it actually gets worse, which leads me to think fuel shortage. is fuel getting into bowl quick enough? wrong needle? wrong float?or what size should main jet be? as you can see clutching at straws now.
any help or thoughts appreciated or anyone with working carb near derby?

after bit more tinkering it looks like the opposite side has also a different cylinder??
so now thinking this good side with the MM cylinder may have been a bodge, and yet was the better side which i stripped down…

as you said charlie I’d have expected the brake parts to be off the shelf cheap as chip’s item’s from back when these were made, but what was around back when these were built?? not alot with 5 stud fitment and even the drum backing plate is an odd one – spend hours looking at images of parts from late 70’s – 80’s to see if i can find a match

After Getting hold of joe turner equipment – they directed me to David turner at greenmech now waiting on a return call …

and after an over night soak if one of the brake cylinders i managed to get a number off it 84946
quick google search directed me to a Morris minor cylinder and they look like a match.
