ParticipantGood Friday was always the traditional spud planting day, cat in hells chance this year!!!
The other old idea was to pull down your breeches and sit on the ground, if it was too cold for your cheeks, it was too cold for the spuds!.March 22, 2016 at 9:21 pm #20326joegrgraham
ParticipantThanks Stuart,
I’ve set the timing tonight, as you’ve suggested. Just got a couple of little jobs to do on the head, before it goes back together, so will keep you informed as and when.

ParticipantThanks chaps.
I did consider the Jap, but if I’m being honest, I want to try something a little different!.
Alan, do you know what model of Petter they used?.
I know a diesel is a heavier lump, but I’m sure it could be counteracted with some ballast on the rear. It’ll be a case of a bit of R and D I think.
I do like the diesel idea, especially as there is a precedent……January 2, 2016 at 3:57 pm #15636joegrgraham
ParticipantI think I’ve got it…………..
In this age of ‘Elf and Safety (boom boom),
It is a bracket that goes on the rear of the sleigh, the orange flashing light goes on top and the aperture visible in the latest pic is for the reversing camera lens, with the wire clip holding the cable so it doesn’t get tangled in the tinsel.
The reversing camera is necessary, as although there are several mirrors attached to Rudolfs antlers, objects appear closer in the mirror, and following last years unfortunate compensation claim, when the bell on the Elf union reps’ shoe was squashed, it was deemed to be required, as was a Green (and red) cross code refresher training course for all employees working airside……..

ParticipantThanks Alan,
I’ll have to have a look at the engine and let you know.
Yes, it is in really good condition, starts first pull and apart from the belt deteriorating, doesn’t look like it’s done a great deal of work.

ParticipantThanks Alan,
Can’t read it at the moment, its a bit rusty/oily!.
Now, how do I get the flywheel off, so I can get at the points?, I’ve got the 3 screws out, but as its aluminium, I dont want to put the puller on it.

ParticipantI’ve got a Fleming flat roller at work, not very old at all, and that has wooden bearing blocks.
Someone already mentioned about the abrasive nature of soil, also, due the infrequent use of implements like rollers and discs, the wood doesnt suffer from rust and seizing like conventional bearing do.Joe.

ParticipantMaybe for taking a core or plug sample from something deep, possibly a peat bog?.

ParticipantSorry to hear about your ‘visitors’, it is certainly worth getting a trail camera. They do take some very good quality videos/pictures, they work through infra-red, so no flashes, and they can be tucked away very discreetly. Just got to remember to change the batteries regularly.

ParticipantLovely truck!
Don’t see many of them about now, yours looks to be in good condition.
May I suggest lots and lots of waxoyl in every possible orifice, try to keep a lid on the the 1970’s British vehicle rot!
Good luck,
Joe.

ParticipantI have seen a machine like this before, I have a hunch that it is a French SIFT tractor, but I stand to be corrected.

Good company, the chance to use the Trusty without fear of squashing anything, AND, the Trusty ran faultlessly all weekend. Who could ask for more?.
