ParticipantI’d love some snow and frost. Wet and windy here (Glos/Wilts border). My garden is starting to resemble the Bayou, no ‘Gators yet but my chickens are doing very passable duck impressions!.
I’m itching to get the last of the Parsnips out, rotovate the bed and get the Garlic in, but I’m on heavy clay and it is sticking like something to a woollen blanket!.
Ah well, be a hosepipe ban soon!Joe

ParticipantCharlie, I’m going to confess, I cracked the casting getting the taper bolt out! (my head is hung in shame!) It’s at the welders right now. Luckily, I’ve got a brilliant old boy near me who specialises in repairing engine blocks and manifolds, so I know it’ll be a good repair!.

ParticipantCatfish mentions access, this is an important consideration. Is it accessible from a road, or is the access through someone else’ land? If the latter applies, are the access rights legally binding?. There have been many fall-outs over access rights, and it is not much use having a patch of land you can’t get to!.
As for the price, how long is a bit of string!. Fishing rights have been mentioned, also shooting rights, are there any shoots that own neighbouring land that would be keen to aquire this piece?.
Probably your best bet is to do some research of the area and find out if any similar plots have been sold recently and what they went for. Speak to the local land owners, and also the local Land Agents/ Auctioneers for an independant valuation.Joe

ParticipantHi again,
I stripped the clutch down today, and the springs, it’s fair to say, are cream-crackered. (Thanks Steve, I’ll be in touch shortly). Now, while it’s apart, it seems foolish not to replace the linings, so is it a case of buying some material and cutting it to size, or does anyone know if a commercially available lining kit for something else fits? (eg car drum brakes).
Also, the rubber on the bushes in the shoes is pretty tired, are bushes of the correct size available, or would I be better to leave them alone?.
Thanks,

ParticipantThat makes sense, thanks Angus.

ParticipantThat’s great, Thanks Steve.
It was the East Kirby museum that I had seen.
Thanks for the offer of entry forms, but I’ll just be coming as a visitor (the Trusty isn’t up to showing yet!).
Time to start looking for a B + B. 🙂Joe.

ParticipantI afraid I know nothing about this particular machine, but from what you describe about the hydraulics, ie, the drive is fine but the lift is slow, there is probably a filter in the system somewhere which is partially blocked and restricting the flow, also, the oil may be emulsified due to condensation, so an oil change would be advisable.

ParticipantBeen doing some more research, and have found a really good website http://www.outdoorpowerinfo.com
It’s a really good site with loads of step by step photo’s for rebuilding different B & S carbs. Also covers Kohler carbs so may be of interest to Wheelhorse owners too .Through the site, I’ve noticed a few bits and bobs that are wrong with my carb.
Ordered a rebuild kit, loads available in the US. 🙂December 23, 2013 at 12:48 pm #4410joegrgraham
ParticipantThanks guys,
Had another go with it yesterday, adjusting the mixture screw achieved nothing, so I think Charlie might be onto something with wear in the carb.
Series1gem, the valves have already been done.
Not sure if replacement parts are available for this carb, so if anyone has a spare ZZ carb or complete engine lying around?……December 21, 2013 at 5:39 pm #4317joegrgraham
ParticipantAccording to the paper today, the engine was salvaged and went to a quarry in Kent, so no joy there! 🙂

ParticipantHi again,
Been through the carb, and tried it today, and she runs! (albeit with a lot of spitting and popping, plus a few flames!).
The problem now is it will only run on tick over and fully choked, increase the revs and/or open the choke and it dies.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

ParticipantI totally agree with other posts. Being on a sawbench it would have been running at fairly low revs.If at all possible, put her on a plough and find some heavy ground to turn over, failing that, find a big hill to drive up, anything to really make her work!.

ParticipantAll working fine now. Thanks Charlie. 🙂

ParticipantHi Charlie,
Just tried to PM you, and it wouldn’t let me. I’m fairly sure I’m a member (my name was in latest issue of the cultivator).
Thanks
