ParticipantMany thanks Trusty I will give it a try.
Finally managed to get round to welding up the drive wheel rims yesterday, the 1/2 1937 model came in handy as a swivel mount for the welding. I tacked them up first and then welded a quarter at a time front and back and then ground them down flush I will have to apply a light skim of filler just to fill the rust pitting and the odd low point in the weld edges.Rhys has made me two new sets of rollers and spindles.May 27, 2015 at 8:31 am #13168expeatfarmer

ParticipantI am told that Newark is seen as the season closing show, Malvern the new start and plans are that both continue unchanged.

ParticipantI am pleased to put an end to the rumours re Tractor World at Malvern, the show will go ahead as planned, Kelsey is only one of the show sponsors and remain fully committed. As I am in regular contact with the event organisers regarding the 80th anniversary display of MG tractors, I have direct confirmation that nothing will change. I am still looking for ITW and skimmer owners to come forward willing to display their machines.

ParticipantSometimes the felt sticks inside the filter housing may be worth checking with a torch.
I made a new one a while ago using carpet felt I used two layers of felt which I soaked with water and put in the freezer and then cut the hole whilst frozen .May 11, 2015 at 6:50 am #13018expeatfarmer
ParticipantThe previous owner had made up what he thought looked like a bulldozer blade, it was in a fixed position riding the ground on skids weighed a ton and looked awful. I guess it may have had a use as a snow plough as it came from the Alps. The hydraulic pump is a French unit but looks as if it was fitted in Ipswich. I have just replaced the fan belt and fitted a new ammeter as the French jaeger unit was full of mud and u.s.. I have now fully removed the blade and mounts and now need a new bumper as they had chopped the ends off to clear the blade bracing arms. Runs and starts well left hand brake chamber was full to the brim with water and oil despite the jiggle pins in the drain holes. Sprayed it with degreaser prior to a good pressure wash and respray with light oil. I may re paint the bonnet at some point as it is very sun bleached. Those rear cranes are interesting I keep looking at it with a view to adapting it for a pallet lift.

ParticipantHi James
An overhaul kit for an Amal 356 is basicly two jets and possibly a fuel control needle and float all of which are available from Neil Jarret. Being a fairly low efficiency side valve engine my experience is that with the TVO manifold they actually run better on straight petrol. I have one that I use any old petrol drained from machines that have stood a while.
If you want to put the engine back to original I have an MG5 carb and manifold to suit that I would swap for the 356.May 4, 2015 at 8:44 pm #12921expeatfarmer
Participant7253 dates from 1952 . Neil is the man for spares. Looks as if the engine has been changed or at least the carb and manifolds these are from a later model. Not a problem though most machines have had parts changed over the years to keep them going. Good luck!

ParticipantMany thanks Charlie.
I think the owner is wanting to sell them if anyone is interested.April 27, 2015 at 6:51 pm #12764expeatfarmer
ParticipantThanks. I will give it a try.

ParticipantBoth drive roller wheels on 137 were badly worn, the drive rollers are actually bolted on with a nut either side, incredibly all bar one came undone with sockets. I have bought some repair rims from Neil and using a plasma cutter I cut down the wheels to suit the repair rims and pleasingly the rims are ready to weld on with minimal grinding to clean off the slag.
One concern I have is that as I plan to restore to as new for the 2016 80th anniversary, the engine cowl cover ( threepenny bit shape ) is badly battered and suffering from vibration tears I think it will be hard to repair, but in view of the rolled ribs in the original stamping it will be even harder to replicate. Fortunately I have a better one on my other T /2, but I have promised myself not to rob bits off it unless I am absolutely desperate.April 25, 2015 at 8:46 am #12728expeatfarmer
ParticipantHi Rob
The engine is stripped down but I have all the parts and all seem to be in good order.April 24, 2015 at 7:26 am #12719expeatfarmer
ParticipantA lot of machining work required Derek and substantial cost. Why not swap the clutch housing cover for a pulley type ( Neil Jarrett ) and fit a dynamo which you could then use to drive an electric winch through a battery, if you fit a dynostarter you will also get the benefit of electric start and your machine remains virtually original, alternatively you could sell your 5 and with the cost of the parts needed to convert it buy an MG6 .
Never the less it would make a challenging and interesting project if you do decide on the conversion.April 23, 2015 at 4:01 pm #12693expeatfarmer
ParticipantNo wonder I am always hard up!
