vhgmcbuddyMemberWhat a find especially with all the attachments looks like your only missing the trailer.
That mower looks lethal, health & safety would have a field day. Just goes to show how things have changed.
Still, lovely bit of kit.
Would those colours have been standard across the range do you think ?January 3, 2017 at 6:38 pm #23870

vhgmcbuddyMemberHi Darren, thanks for the info, I’ll look through your post. I have seen a minor on ytube presumably yours ? I’ll see if I can find the numbers. I hope to restore mine during the year and will, i’m sure have many questions. Coincidently, there is one on the auction site at the moment complete with a rough cut mower but the handles don’t look original.
Thanks again for the help.
Regards

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks Stuart. I will look at the needle length tomorrow. It did start and run fine three times today, but still refuses to re-start straight away after stopping it. The needle keeps getting stuck too in a high revs position and the slider can be really hard to get out, so think I will strip the carb down again tomorrow or try the spare one. Thanks for all the suggestions.

vhgmcbuddyMemberHo one and all , i hope you all hade a great christmas and new year. Now back to reality i thought it was time i started to try and get some more answers to which may be an endless amount of questions in the coming months from you wonderfull people.
So my fist question of the new year is that my engine cowling is in a poor state due to being eaten away from rust and being used as a battering ram. Is there anywhere i can source a replacement or can it be fixed ?January 2, 2017 at 7:23 pm #23814
vhgmcbuddyMemberHi AGain

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks Andy and Stuart. The timing really does seem to be fine. Really glad to hear there are drain screws, i had wondered about that as flooding really did seem to be the cause. Got one undone easily and about an egg cup full or so came out. Will try to start it again tomorrow.
The only adjustment on the carb seems to be where the throttle cable enters the carb, is this just used to take up any slack in the cable or does it have any other function?January 1, 2017 at 9:28 pm #23801
vhgmcbuddyMemberall the best to everyone for 2017 and another good rally season stew

vhgmcbuddyMemberWorm wheel is good
No drive to worm wheel or crank as clutch just slips constantly, everything moves free and easy, cutter bar been overhauled, moves freely and smoothly.
clutch shows no sign of excessive wear – no ‘step’ worn into the gear.
It cut and drove well for ten minutes after engine conversion, had complete overhaul of everything except slip clutch, then the clutch started slipping, I adjusted it, it worked sporadically, then nothing, cleaned the clutch, still nothing.
Just thinking, tomorrow I’ll check the coupling for the drive pinion, if that has failed where it is located within the adapter plate . .December 29, 2016 at 1:41 pm #23746

vhgmcbuddyMemberChris,
Where about in the world are you?
I aquired a Merlin some while ago.
However it is in many pieces, I am therefore after pictures and information to put it back together.
Anything would be greatly received
Many thanks
Jon. -
