I might have spoke to soon. My engine starts nearly first pull but however it seems to run fir a while then stop. After several similar attempts it carries in running fine. I would presume a fuel issue ? I did change the diaphragm and cleaned the carb in a ultrasound tank.

Done some research on this.Apart from cleaning the carb through again advised to check carb to fuel tank seal and “preload” diaphragm. This is achieved by pulling out choke by app 3/8 ins and then tightening carb to tank screws ?

Sorted. I had forgot to tighten the carb to cylinder head bolts so running lean.

Good that it’s up and running . You don’t mention the engine make or model but if it’s Briggs the recommendation is usually that the choke valve / butterfly is moved over centre.

Pulse jet carb. To be fair I was not 100 % satisified with its running but engine is fitted to cement mixer so neglected over last 30 yrs
