Mine is pre-hydrostatic plus it has a ‘newer’ kubota engine on it which runs sweet… So far I have managed to service and have running most moving parts apart from the cabling from handlebars.

I’ll post some pics for you….

Hi Charlie. I am a researcher in the US and am intested in speaking with you regarding the information you have gathered on Geo. Monro Ltd.

It has never worked in my ownership, so am running blind at mo… What is this hydrostatic you speak of? I am not sure mine has this…

I cannot fathom how I still can get it to go forward? There is a lever on the right of gearbox which only selects slow (lever back), neutral (middle) or fast (lever forward)
The other lever that is on the left engages the belts and pulleys to spin the large grooved dish that clearly terminates inside the gearbox.. Maybe someone fiddled with it and put the gearbox back upside down ;0)

Ok my next question is, it currently only goes backwards when I engage the drive to the large wheel that goes into the gearbox… How do engage it to go forwards?

This is very puzzling to me…

Yes please! I’m wondering if the kubota engine was a later retro fit? Anyhow any information would be helpful thanks!

Bullfinch or Bulldog? What are the main differences? If it is a rare machine I don’t want to start chopping and changing.

    Thank you Andy,

It was the handle bars that were throwing me off!

I am tempted to do a basic service and see if runs, if it does why not keep using it. As they say “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.

    Regards

All running now. Amazingly it sat in a field under a tree for probably 10 years and it started 2nd pull and runs sweet as anything. Blades spin and stop as they should, drive works great as well. Just the new rollers to drill out, varnish and fit. Then decide if I go the whole hog and paint it or leave it as is. Either way, it will go to work now and hopefully last a few more years.
