Hello, The petrol valve in my shay two stroke rotavator will not seal properly in the float chamber, it`s a metal on metal seal, I have cleaned the brass female part with a brasso cotton bud to clean off any varnish. Any ideas . I need to put it to work on my allotment at some point THANKS.

There were different engines on these , usually either BUX or JAP , with a few different carbs , a picture of both your engine and the carb(close-up) and we may well be able to help.

Hello Andy sorry i did not get back to you sooner i couldnt get my phone to send any photos ,I used too, any way the engines are a BUX and the carburetter is an AMAL ,The rotorvator has a yellow domed alloy cover , the float in the carb is brass and does not have a leak so that rules out a leaking float. What about using a paste to grind in a seat like a valve .Im disappointed i can`t send any pictures , Thank you for your time in trying to sort it out.NICK.

They can be lapped in , believe it or not I still use VIM on carb needles , I don’t know if it’s still available.Any such paste is OK , but it MUST be very fine.

Hello Andy, you were right the lapping in did the job , I used cream cleaner and brasso with the male part in the Dremel type drill . THANKYOU.
