    Thanks for the info Neil.
As it was built during the war, I suppose it is feasible ransomes were using what they could get their hands on, bits dug out of the stores, maybe a defunct machine that had been returned to the factory was cannibalized?.
Dave, Charlie has close links with Reading I believe.

    Hi all.
Please could I have some thoughts regarding my serial number.
    My data plate reads 551.
However, stamped twice into the gear assembly, and etched into the crownwheel, is the number 580!.
To further confuse, the date stamped into the crownwheel is 4-37?!?.
Firstly, assuming that 580 is a serial number, it would seem more likely that the data plate has been changed rather than the gear assembly?

    Little victories!

The first parts have been painted!
Sadly, it’s bits no one is ever going to see.

    Hi all.
It’s been a while, but the in-laws are gone, the shed move has been completed and the trusty is running.
So I can now do a bit on the ransomes!.
My man who will do the sand blasting is combining at the moment so in the meantime I have stated cleaning some of the gearbox parts.
With the crud removed, the number stamped into the gears is 580, the number on the id plate is 551, so has the plate been swapped or have the gears been changed?

Just noticed that the skimmer has reappeared.
I have no connection to the listing, just saw it and thought it would be of interest to members.

There must be a chemical that counteracts the sealer, caustic soda, something like that?.
Or would it be possible to carefully cut out the end or bottom of the tank, sand blast the sealer out and then re braze the section back in?

Im not familiar with your particular engine, but i do have experience of tvo, and it does sound like you are experiencing one of the reasons tvo fell out of favour.
They need to be working hard to run well on tvo, which means running hot, and it sounds like you are in the limbo period of too hot to run petrol and not hot enough to run tvo.
Instead of switching to petrol, maybe try turning the tap off and letting it run out of fuel, then next time, just draw fresh petrol through before starting.
Also may be worth checking the tap, i assume it’s a two way tap?, possibly its not shutting properly and allowing tvo to leak through?

I once had a v8 landy that was a pig to start when hot. Turned out it was running a bit too hot and vapourised the petrol in the carb.
Perhaps a similar thing is happening with your mg?.
Are you making your own tvo? What ratio of petrol to kero? As the kero has a much higher Flashpoint have you tried a mix with more petrol? Whats happens if you give it a good long run on straight petrol?

    Hi Dave,
Land Rover willing, I should hopefully be with you this year.
Do I need to pre book for camping?
I will probably come up on the Friday, so is there a pub nearby for sustenance Friday night?
    Cheers,
    Joe.

Charlie, traffic shouldn’t be a problem, I’ll be heading in the opposite direction, and the Spine road is far enough out that it shouldn’t back up too much, if all else fails, I’ll come the back way through Cricklade and Blunsdon.

    Hi Alan,
Read my copy twice already, many tanks. It gets better with each issue.

    Jim, looking forward to Lotmead!
