ParticipantYou could try Chester Hudson, http://www.tillerparts.com But can’t be sure if he has any now.

ParticipantLets hope they keep the current format, as the content and items of interest are superior to T&M
in my humble opinion, I know these mags need adverts but it is rather boring for regular readers to see the same old ads month after month!Let’s hope Tractor and farming heritage is able to survive.

ParticipantHello Per.
Your machine looks identical to my 56A, But I am sure Charlie will be able to explain any detailed differences, as he holds records from Geo Monro. I expect Charlie will reply soon.

ParticipantHello again sidevalve.
I am not sure what you are needing in the way of parts, there is an outside chance I may be able to help, if i knew what you are looking for.

ParticipantHello sidevalve.
You could be lucky and find Howard parts still from Standen Engineering, Ely, Cambs. they took on a lot of Howard Spares when Howard/Dowdeswell ceased trading. Or Chester Hudson- tillerparts .com
you are more likely to have to source secondhand parts from a redundant machine. Most agricultural machinery suppliers carry stocks of ‘Howard Orange’ available off the shelf, this is usually good quality enamel paint.

ParticipantHello Mick.
Apart from the suggestions from Charlie, you could try John Cruse, The Mower Centre, Hailsham, East Sussex 01323 842477 ( daytime), he is a club member and carries vast stocks of parts for older machines.Chris Fuller

ParticipantHi Sweeny-todd
If it is a small machine it could be a bullfinch, fitted with a JAP2A engine,, If it is a much larger machine it could be a 400 they had a JAP 4/3 engine, Gems of course had a JAP option, I cannot think of any other models with JAP engines, unless one has been retro fitted to your machine. A photo would be useful.

ParticipantHello Moggyjim.
I tend to agree with Charlie, it looks like a Bullfinch, probably retro fitted with the larger Kohler engine, I hope the extra power has not damaged the transmission!!March 18, 2015 at 7:42 pm #12099hortiman
ParticipantHello tump.
If you fancy a trip to west Wales, I have a spare g/box lying around as you say.

ParticipantWell done franktonpaget.
I too inquired on Saturday at the same stand, and was greatly encouraged by the response and interest shown by the guys on the stand, they sound pretty confident that something will happen fairly soon.March 15, 2015 at 7:32 pm #12076hortiman

ParticipantThe Caldwell-Vale looks awesome now, when I saw the pile of rusty metal, I could not imagine anyone ever making something as impressive as that. It must have been one of the earliest 4×4 trucks made.
I remember seeing the wheels, I think he had the remains of 2 trucks, the wheels looked like traction engine wheels, and there was a section of chassis and the axles/transmission, no bodywork at all and I believe the engine was being worked on at the time. Did I read somewhere fairly recently that Reg is still around? he must be some age, as he was no spring chicken when I met him in 97. Has the museum been dispersed or is it still operating? I believe I only got to visit because I was staying with tractor collector Mal Cameron down at South West Rocks. and with Albert Brimblecombe at St George, who had an enormous Cotton Farm and an enormous collection of tractors of all ages.Regards

ParticipantHello Dan.
I remember seeing the Howard ‘kelpie’ in Reg Shuster’s museum in 1997 in fact I have photos somewhere. I was lucky enough to have a guided tour around his fantastic place. The rusty 4wd road trains were a sight to behold, I believe he restored one in the end, is that correct?, I must admit I have forgotten their name, but I think they were pre WW1.Super line up at your show, good luck.
