I think it is a case of printing techniques were not so good at matching colours back then combined with ageing of our machines.

One of my machines does have a cover which may well be home made as the parts list does not show or list a cover. Non of the sales leaflets I have show a cover either. The bearing inside the cover is show as a Hoffman 59.

When I was given a C30B it came with a few new springs and tines, these were unpainted. The only colour image I have of a 56 is from a sales leaflet where tines do appear to be black.

stuart, the army had a few built to trial and found they were no better. The engine, a Rolls Royce B40 as used in the Austin Champ, cost as much as a complete Land Rover. The front axle of the Land Rover was moved forward an inch to make room for the engine, making it an 81 inch rather than 80 inch. I see Bonhams sold one a couple of years ago.

£12.50 sounds a much better price, I assume they do know what they will be used for and what heat treatment they will need to avoid breakages. I say this as some years ago another member got a very good price until he explained exactly what they were for.

To help owners identify which springs and tines they have the following images are taken from the relevant parts books.

If getting new tines cut from sheet steel they will no doubt need to go through some sort of hardening process to prevent rapid wear.
