ParticipantDave , they were never designed to run on sythetic type oils , many older twostrokes had bushes for crankcase bearings , and they relied on the film of oil(given by straight 30 grade) to form the crankshaft seal.
As Stew has correctly pointed out they simply will not run as they should , I suspect he is talking about a Bantam with a Villiers 25C , which although had ball bearing mains , still relied on a ph brass gland seal.
All my vintage gear (nearly all twostrokes) is used on a regular basis , and performs faultlessly on normal petrol , coupled with the correct grade of oil.
Hope this helps.Andy.

ParticipantAll sounds good , but synthetic oil is simply no good for most of the elderly twostrokes that we play with.

ParticipantGents , a huge thanks , I wanted to know if it was the same gasket as the 700 , from the part number it would appear different.

ParticipantGeoff , 100% spot on regarding judging , it’s a hobby to me and not a competition , which is why I seldom bother with “static” events , give me a working weekend any day.

ParticipantNacton or Orwell blue do not appear in the the standard RAL numbers , but any respectable paint dealer should be able to give you the match required.
Diesel Dave , I would be extremely wary of anyone who says they will give you a 20yr guarantee, even on brand new metal that would be a bit of a tall story.Andy.

ParticipantHi , C25 is a fourstroke , it could possibly be a stuck valve , best thing is to remove the cylinder head and have a look.

ParticipantSeems like a MUST for the cultivator , regarding safe loading. Even AFTER the disaster there’s still only one strap holding it on , and even that is pulling on a sharp edge.

ParticipantPeter , my Fathers name was Jack from Ashby-St-Mary , sadly his machines have long gone. His main machine was an AutoCulto (Model L) that he bought brand new in , I believe 1945 , from local agents , Cushions of Surlingham having seen it at the Royal Norfolk show , which that year was at the Crown Point estate at Whitlingham , it was held at various venues back in the day.
The Morris got cut up to make a trailer to go behind his Grey Fergie , which in latter years replaced the AutoCulto , he had a whole load of other machinery which went at his disposal sale.
We’ll have to meet up for a chat at some point.Andy.
