Regarding the oil leak , check and thoroughly clean the breather , I would suspect from your description of the engine internals that it’s not working.

Didn’t Mechanised Gardening take over Geo Monroe ?? , I seem to recall their last location as Great Gransden in Bedfordshire.

Well done John , that is in remarkable condition , I was the other mug bidding for it……should have gone a tad more. The seller seems a really nice chap , I had a conversation with him on the phone during the week.

    Best Andy.

    John , are you sure it’s a MK40 , these usually had MK20 or MK25 fitted.

Auto Culto Juniour , if it was nearer me I may have even risked a tenner on it.

Yes Charlie I got the renewal form , but on checking to pay , it says I’m paid until 2014 , hence my other post on this.

    Thanks Andy.

John , your problems I would say are Carb related. From memory the float level is not adjustable , the needle being fixed in the float , so I’m not sure what adjustments you have made.
Before going down the valve route(which I have strong doubts are not your problem) , firstly THOROUGHLY clean the carb , try it again , if problem persists , raise the slide fuel needle slightly and try again.
Be VERY careful when re-assembling , it is very easy on these carbs to damage the top of the float needle , check this on yours , they have an extremely fine tip , and the slightest damage will result in flooding issues.

I must admit I’ve never seen a fourstroke 700 , what were the engine options.

That was my initial thought Charlie , hence asking if it was a rotavator , it’s the only machine that springs to mind as having an air intake running through the tank.

Is it actually a small two wheel tractor , or a rotavator ??

John , that’s a Suffolk engine , judging by the air filter , an early one at that.

John , that is deffo not a B 10 (they are a butterfly type carb) , from the pics I can see it appears an S series carb , which were relatively common. It should have a “clip-on” cylindrical type filter , all metal construction with a wire gauze inner.
