wristpinParticipantAhh the OLC secret society still going then, maybe they should be more open like the VHGMC.
Seems to keep the spammers out though!
However, as far as I can see, no Ransomes 14/16 manual.March 29, 2014 at 5:39 pm #7003
wristpinParticipantSounds as though it may be using fuel faster than it is replenished from the tank; my guess is that if you put it under a working load it would falter. May be worth checking the fuel flow where the feed pipe meets the carb. Disconnect the pipe and watch the flow into a suitable container for at least a minute. If it starts to slow down remove the filler cap . If that makes a difference check the breather. After that check right through from the tank filter/exit and the fuel pipe.

wristpinParticipantTwo questions. You say that it revs up and runs smoothly but is that under working load? When it fades how long is it before it will start again?

wristpinParticipantYou don’t want the trailer balanced, you will need to have a certain nose weight, this should be as recommend for vehicle towing the trailer.
If it’s homologated tow hitch it should have a plate giving the capacities etc. the nose weight of the trailer is shown as the “S” weight. As Charlie says, the trailer should not be in balance – that induces snaking.

wristpinParticipantAre you sue about that two thirds on the tow hitch? For a caravan the recommendation seems to be seven percent of the gross weight.

wristpinParticipantElectrolysis is an option. A little bit more tricky than dunking it in a tank of electrolyte to remove external rust as one electrode has to be inserted through the filler orifice with a sleeve to prevent contact with the metal tank. You then fill the fuel tank with electrolyte, connect up to the power source and leave it to cook.
All the rust will then migrate from the tank walls and be collected on the electrode.March 23, 2014 at 6:06 pm #6824

wristpinParticipantAs a result of this attack the membership list has been reviewed and a number of dubious user id’s without full name have been de-activated. If you find your user id does not work anymore please contact us via the contact link giving user id, full name and e mail address.
Is there not a case for doing away with user names altogether or have no posting unless a fully paid up member?

wristpinParticipantNot sure whether these parts illustrations are what you already have but they may be of use to you or others.

wristpinParticipantAs I said, it was a while ago ! Anyway I’ve had a look at a parts list and you are correct, no face dogs but a sliding gear. Similar situation applies. If, over time, operators have been a bit impatient and attempted to engage the rotors before the drive train was stationary the mating surfaces of the gears will become worn and will tend to be forced apart under load.
I will scan the relevant pages of the manual and post them later – they may be of assistance.March 19, 2014 at 10:15 pm #6545
wristpinParticipantDealt with a few years ago and from what I can remember the problem was caused by wear on the dogs causing them to ” cam out” under load and the only answer is new components. What I also remember is that when offering the gearbox back onto the chain case there’s a little shim/thrust washer on one of the shafts that needs to be firmly stuck on the shaft with heavy grease to ensure that it stays in place. Once the gearbox is back on there is no way of checking !

wristpinParticipantNice little pump. If you google Pegson there are plenty of hits. Knew that they made big stuff, mucky pumps, rammers and big tracked crushing plant but was unaware that they also made small stuff. Don’t start it up and run the pump dry, may damage the seals.
