many thanks to everyone who has helped with the various subjects that have cropped up. I have the original old green which has been supplied by wristpin and it will make its way to the paint supplier who I use for DNA testing and soon we will get the colour named so others can order it by RAL 0R BS codes.WILL start the restoration at Christmas time when we get the builders holidays 14 days worth.

Hi John I do remember you saying something about it, however doubt I am young enough to be classed as a young farmer now! Anyway it doesn’t matter as my work is sponsoring me to do it, only problem is it means I have to do a full days work, then travel to college and do another couple of hours welding, by the time I get home it’s a 14 hour day!

yes martin I do remember you and I look forward to seeing your restoration. will be making a start on mine when I have a couple of weeks over the Christmas break so we can get stuck in. I have got a sample of old atco green to get DNA tested so when I know I will post on here.

hi gareth . do you remember some while ago when I was restoring the auto culto,i mentioned about the young farmers free welding classes. you may not have gone to them .but you have started some so that’s good. you will be restoring ships soon !!!!!!! [thumbs up ]

One of the things that has allways caused me delays and cost with previous projects is not being able to weld. Recently I have been attending college on a Monday night to learn how.
I have allready started on rebuilding the rear rotor shields as they are yet another part that is unique to the 800.
The rear rotor shaft on this machine is actually quite bent. Initially I was simply going to fit one off a 24″gem that I had broken, however the end is quite different so will have to have a go at straightening what I’ve got on my 60 tonne press. Luckily the blades and the friction clutch are the same as a standard gem.

Its very slowly getting there. Going to be a long haul to get finished as is probably the worst machine ive ever attempted to save.

Very well posted Mr. Haggle. Almost like being at the show in person. Really like your photo of the club banner and digging tools. Also taking some of the printed signage was a wonderful addition, as often times they are unreadable to the viewer.

Hello sidevalve. I’m afraid my spraying facility’s are basic so I see the red mist, I try opening the garage doors and spray outside then the weathers suitable. But it’s getting past going outside now, I’ve only got the bonnet to final coat, so it’s getting their. I am waiting for an exhaust I ordered from USA. I will put a photo on hear when it arrives,

well I suppose it could be a bad ink job, i’ll try to repost the picture that didn’t come though the first time. always great to get items for free. Not that its valuable, and this one is in not so good a shape on the canvass, but something to put up, just so I can say I has one.

Some great photos there Alan, I went last year and really enjoyed the show. Wanted to go this year but was told I have to go wedding shopping. A bit far to realistically enter but hopefully will be back as a spectator next year.

One very usefull item that came with the machine was a photo copy of the original instruction book.

After seeing examples of his work at Tractor World I bit the bullit and ordered up new i.d plates from http://www.vintagebrassplates.co.uk not cheap at £45 each but I felt it was money well spent.

The clutch plates had seen better days, luckily these are the same as fitted to a standard Gem. I had one good used one and a new one on the shelf.
