    Hi Dave
    I agree with Neil your MG2 is certainly fitted with running gear appropriate to the age of the diff 1947. If this is the case the serial number will be between 2319 and 2675.

    Thank you expeatfarmer and Neil, any idea roughly when they changed the running gear, just for future reference.
    So maybe my serial number is 2523, that would be somewhere about right.
    Has anyone tried macro etching or using dye penetrant to enhance a serial number? Both techniques are non invasive so wont affect anything, i just happen to habe got some more cans today for checking a casting i had in at work.
