    Dear Angus and Andy.
One additional question: my carburetor is a Villiers B.10/1. Which direction should the needle on the float be oriented? up or down? When re-assembling the carb I put the needle down, but I was not sure and the manual would not give that detail.
Of note that the engine works well with it’s carburetor and muffler. I filled up the carb hose with fuel (around 10 ml) and it worked for a few seconds. There is a small leak at the hose so did not dear using any temporary tank to get it running longer and do any carb adjustments.

Well another one of those long days completed of which the highlight was talking to our President Charlie.
That is until I read Alans answers, absolutley brilliant cannot stop laughing, and that is just one reason why I love this club!

As for the keymaster, finally you’ve got it! well done.

Alan taking your first answer to be correct and that you broke my anagram what are the 5 areas named after the rivers in Sheffield, I had it drummed into me when I was in Scouting.
Although Sheffield has a lot of effluent in its rivers it has not got a kuaka Maximus as Rome!

    Regards

Well go to the foot of our stairs! you are so close but yet! Correct year and even correct month but what about the day.
One for Allen here, if you know so much about Sheffield why is it a copy of Rome?
    Kind regards

    Dear Angus.
Spares were delivered yesterday so re-installed the head with the new head gasket. Assembled the carb too. Put some fuel through the spark plug hole and get it to turn…and it fired!!!!
Need to now try if the carb is working and try to adjust what can be adjusted as well as set the governor…

Hi Iain, i have inherited this Allen scythe from my uncle but really know very little, like your one i think this is an mk11c engine, the serial number seems to be lower in the 16000’s, also would like some info on them.

    Good evening
Andy, I checked the inspection cover and there is nothing on it.
@ Wrispin. Mine must be an intermediate as it has no condenser but it still has points. Any idea how to know the year of this engine?
Good news: I set the points at 18 thou and I put back the flywheel and … now I got spark! Youpi!
I also fabricated an adjuster for the governor, fixed the throttle lever as it had about 1/5 of a turn play.
Ready to re-assemble everything when I get the spares delivered and fire it up.
    Have a good evening.
    Jeff

As I was searching for an answer regarding testing the coil, I realized that you recommend having it tested by a professional or test in situ if you have a enough good spark. Will wait now until I get the spares to put the engine back together to test if I have a good spark.
    Cheers Jeff

    Dear Angus
Thanks for the pictures indeed. I can copy the adjuster.
Here is a picture of the coil + points.
What should be the opening of the points? I set them at 14 thou (0.35 mm)?
What should I expect when testing the coil? I got 3440 ohms
    (3.44 with meter set on 20 k)
Should received the spares I ordered within days: looking forward to get it all back together and see if it starts.
    Cheers Jeff

HMMM Star sign, thought you might have guessed that! Try Virgo, probalby answers a lot of questions.
As the Americans would say – we have 100% precipitation here today

Thanks Andy. I just want to get it to run, so will be an easy fix.
Here is a picture of the flywheel if it can help identify the model.
