vhgmcbuddyMemberI had a look at my Manual, the wizard engine briggs 3 HP has a magneto so no points. Can you find any identification numbers on the engine cover. To confirm this, I should have looked before I replied.

vhgmcbuddyMemberThank you for your reply.
The last time it was used was about five years ago. Would it be best to clean the points or change them as I don’t think the points have ever been changed.

vhgmcbuddyMemberI would give it a chance, you can obtain Briggs parts easy and get plenty of help on here. I don’t know how long ago it was running, it might be just a case of cleaning the points to get a spark. I think I’ve got a manual, will have a look.

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks Geoff,As ever your reply is much appreciated. Three fingers, about 1.5h inches. I have been setting much too low. Not sure I understand width setting. I am aware of the lateral screw that sets the whole plough unit at an angle – tip more left, back of mould more right – or vice versa. It more angle = wider? Forgive me if this is a silly question.

vhgmcbuddyMemberEach one puts each wheel into drive. When these levers are under their respective hooks the driving wheels are in neutral. Only unhook each leaver, particularly the first one, when the engine is at tick over. There is a centrifugal clutch which engages as the engine speed increases. Be careful, the engagement of the dog cogs that these levers control can be quite rough.

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks for all the feedback. Tractor is not at my house for the time, but I’ll take some pictures of the carburetor and fuel pump next time I see it, I’ll send an email to you Neil. Regarding the serial number I’ll check the next time I see the Ransomes too.
Jonathan, regarding the nosewheel I not sure about the story behind, but it maybe mounted in Norway since it is very steep in many places. I can also take pictures of the tractor when it is finished for you.
Could be fun with a plow for the tractor, so nice if people speak out if they know about one for sale.

vhgmcbuddyMemberIt’s a long time ago I seen a cart drag being used, It was on a four wheeled cart and only one drag was being used. Not sure if they ever used more than one. If this is the case there might not be another close by.

vhgmcbuddyMemberThank you. I have now managed to identify the other items which were all tennis related apart from this. It hasn’t been fully cleaned so is covered in rust and clay but is actually a very heavy metal, so I am assuming it is a cart skid. Only found one so hoping there may be another close by.
Not sure what the 2 1/4 refers to.May 30, 2015 at 7:46 pm #13227
vhgmcbuddyMemberHi, yes the head gaskets are still avaliable, however they are listed on behalf of a college, if you pm me your number I’ll give you the contact number so you can deal direct. I’m having a lot of trouble with my emails so numbers would be better. When I’ve wanted piston rings I’ve obtained over size ones from Chester and ground them down to suit. I did have a couple of good bottom ends but after getting constantly messed about by idiots on ebay I sent a lot of items like that to scrap, a great shame but I lost my storage shed and even offering them for less than scrap I was constantly messed about. Scored pistons are often a sign of dirt ingress, however with these old engines it needent be terminal, I’ve had them looking like ploughed fields and the rings pinched into the groves yet they still start and run very well, the rpm is so low nothing has to be perfect, simply rub the high spots down with emery paper, if you can hone the barrel and you may be surprised. Don’t forget these engines had a tapered bore, it’s quite a bit bigger at the bottom than the top. The other thing that you’re almost guaranteed to find is a lot of valve guide wear, again unless it’s really bad don’t worry. Grind the valves in, get the timing right and just a bit of compression then they will run.
