ParticipantHi there.
There is normally a very varied collection of Horticultural machinery at Malvern. This year there will be a large showing of Ransomes crawlers and allied equipment. At Dorset, the club stand is normally adjacent to the horticultural working area, near the working tractors, sorry you missed us.

ParticipantHi there
On the PDF drawing you will see part No 240, you should be able to loosen the locknut and screw in part No 240 to tighten the belt, if that does not work it is probably the wrong belt.Hope this helps
ChrisPS I tightened up mine today after rebuilding the engine.

ParticipantYou will find a decompressor lever under the frame just below the rotor selector lever, lift this and hold it up whilst swinging the starting handle, when you have a bit of momentum, release the lever when you are on an upward stroke. Just plain unleaded petrol.
Good luck.

ParticipantI would maintain at least half a tank full at all times.
When the engine is running you should see oil bleeding back into the tank, in spurts. Just take off the oil filler cap, look inside you will see a short stub of pipe just under the cap, this is where the oil should return into the tank. don’t expect a big gush, as it only just comes through in small spurts.Good luck

ParticipantThank you Charlie.
I hope this will not put off volunteer helpers who will hopefully come along as usual and help out on the club stand in the marquee.
All helpers welcome, please contact me if you think you can spare a few hours.
Thank you

ParticipantHi expeatfarmer & bennyboy
Yes the steel combs were stapled on the standard looking conveyor belting, the replacement one I purchesed 20+ years ago from Royer Industries was not as well stapled as the original one. If someone could cut out some combs for you they could probably be fixed with industrial quality staples, I think they were copper if I remember correctly, I guess pop rivets and flat washers would do the job.
It could be worth trying Peter French, Hillside Nurseries, he just might have a spare belt, 01424 870315, he is quite an elderly Gentleman now, but keen on his horti machinery.November 8, 2015 at 7:40 pm #15124hortiman
ParticipantHi there.
I managed to get one several years ago from ‘Royer Industries’, I think they import them from the USA, so maybe the same folks you have dealt with. The only other one I have come across is in Sussex Peter French of Hillside Nurseries used to show it at our local rally there in the 90s. he probably still has it, but I have not been in contact with him for a few years, his Nursery is in Whatlington, East Sussex.

ParticipantHello Joegrgraham.
I have used 5-10% of Kero in a Howard Gem with BJ engine a lot in the past, it made it run much smoother, and started better when hot, I think it burned enough oil to do without the 2 stroke oil!I would try it, but only in an engine with relatively low compression ratio, or you will find it suffering from detonation.
Good luck
