ParticipantHi there warmsteel.
Looking at my list I see that the machine listed as 11038 was made in late 1956/early1957. The first ones were made in 1954.Hope this is useful information for you,
Best of luck with it.I have a JAP 2a that came from a Bullfinch if you are desperate for a replacement.

ParticipantHello Andy.
I believe the correct oil to be straight 30 HD as the oil pump is calibrated to deal with this viscosity. It has always worked well in mine, maybe straight 40 HD would be ok in very hot weather. You can fill up to the top of the filler pipe, as fitted to the Howard 700, I am assuming that is what it is fitted to.
Regards

ParticipantJon Cruse is available in working hours, and runs a postal service too.
01323 842477. He is most helpful, and will help if he is able to.
He does have a website too, there could be a link from this site.March 22, 2016 at 9:01 pm #20324hortiman
ParticipantHello Robbo
I have recently had a need for 2 new coils for Villiers engines, I have been dealing with Jon Cruse at the Mower Centre, Vicarage Road, Hailsham , East Sussex for many years. he stocks new coils for Villiers engines, and they are more reasonably priced than some others, Phone during working hours, not evenings 01323 842447. He is a club member too.

ParticipantYes Charlie.
You may remember that when we organised ‘the first ‘Tilmow’ event, Alan Cullen came and gave us a filmshow in a rebuilt Chapel, I am not sure if it is still there.
But it is an interesting venue.March 15, 2016 at 8:15 pm #20296hortiman
ParticipantAnother thought is The rural life centre, at Tilford.

ParticipantIt may be worth contacting Patrick Knight, he was the editor at the time, he may remember who submitted the article.

ParticipantThere should be a small coil spring at the base of the control rod, which makes the twisting motion ‘spring loaded’ so that they lock in position.

ParticipantFurther to last posting, I have just been to the new gallery and found 4 photos of Bantam lawnmower attachments.
Well done Alan, the gallery is going to be most useful, particularly to new recruits.

ParticipantHi there
If it is a Howard Bantam then the mower unit bolts on in place of the rotor box, the mower actually sticks out in an offset position to one side. They cut very well, the only problem I found is that if the mower encountered a bump in the ground or some other obstruction, the machine was nearly wrenched out of your hands as it wanted to swerve to the right violently. They are not very plentiful now and the grassboxes are even more rare.

ParticipantThe adjuster ‘bolt’ when tightened rocks the engine to tighten the belt, and when the engine returns to the resting position the brake block slows and stops the pulley, to prevent grinding of gears.
