I doubt that Briggs and Stratton will be much help if the engine shown in the photo is the one in question. The engine shown is a European (Italian) built Tecumseh the Tecumseh manual that I have only seems to give engine dating information for American built engines.

The engine fitted to my Mountfield M1 is the 3.5 hp 92908 series Briggs engine with an air vane type of governor but my photos will hopefully help to explain the link that wristpin is describing.
If your engine is larger capacity and has a mechanical governor this link could be longer in length than that on my engine but its function will be the same.

Like you I have struggled to find anything like it on good old Google, they must be out their somewhere!
Perhaps if you post the make and model of the mower that they are fitted to we can find them on a parts list and go from there.

    Good hunting.

Re the original seals you have been very lucky to find identification numbers, if you search Weston Seals you will find some history of the company but like you I had no luck searching the seal numbers.
To access the bearings and to remove the seals you will most certainly need to dismantle the gearbox, when you remove the drive shaft do be careful to keep the shaft and worm wheel facing in the same way that it was removed.

Hello I thought it might help you to know the parts that I used on my own Mountfield M1 to repair it’s wobbly drive shaft and leaking oil seals, you will need to dismantle your machine in order to double check bearing and seal sizes before ordering any parts just in case your machine is different to mine.

You may find that the shaft seals on your machine if like mine will be a single lip seal housed in a Brass housing, as this part is no longer available I found Rubber cased seals that suited the inner an outer diameters and fitted two seals back to back on each side, the inner seal is fitted correctly to keep lube in and the outer one is reversed to keep the dirt out.
You will need to fit the thrust washers as needed on your machine.

All parts were ordered from Simply Bearings you will need to order the following: –

Drive shaft bearings – 1 pack of 2 AJ 1620-18 Oil filled Bronze Flanged Bushes.

Shaft Seals – Four of – 1 X 1.5 X 0.25inch Nitrile Rubber Shaft seals with garter springs No R23/TC

    Thrust washers – 1 pack of 2 series AS 25 X 42 X 1mm thick thrust washers.

Hope this helps your project but do please check before ordering that these parts will fit your gear housing
    Ray.

    http://www.clintonengines.us/Home.html

Take a look around this site I found it very useful for info on a Clinton engine.

We also found many parts are still available directly from the US via ebay suppliers but do be aware of postage and import duties.

If you can do so it would also be a good idea to return the carb settings to their initial setting positions. With a new key fitted you may find the engine will run better any way and not need too much adjustment once the timing is correct.

For future reference it is helpful to let us know the Model,Type and Code numbers of when seeking advice about Briggs and Stratton engines it helps with identifying the engine and then giving the correct information.
    Good luck.

While I am not familiar with the Sachs engine set up have you consdered that the nut holding the fan in place could have a left hand thread?

It may be possible to make your own Peg Spanner or alternatively search the internet for a reasonably priced one such as this example

By courtesy of the folk at allotment- garden there are some free to dowload manuals on there website

    https://www.allotment-garden.org/rotavator-manuals-free/

I can confirm that you have an M1 there but as you have found you have an Aspera engine fitted rather than the Briggs and Stratton engine that mine has fitted. If you can find the model and serial numbers on here it is possible that one of the forum members can help with some seful information.

Nice to see the Elec-trac project has reached its conclusion and is looking excellent.

Re the transmission noises is there any scope for trying a different grade of lubricant or has the lubricant been changed in the past for one that is of a lighter grade than is recommended?
What is the transmission that is fitted to the machine i.e is it a Tufftorq or Peerles etc?

Renewed on line and membership card arrived this morning, many thanks very quick service.

A reminder please, if my details for the members directory are correct and no updates needed do I still need to re submit this year?

    Ray.
