Yes , we really need some photos , unless of course you can tell us what make of engine you have.

Andrew it’s dependant upon how we term original, would you rather have a machine with all it’s correct “original” components with perhaps what some may say has tatty paintwork , or one with pristine paintwork with a host of incorrect parts fitted.
I know which I would rather have , I’ve just purchased another Howard 700 , I bought it because it was complete , along with some original factory fitted extras , and all bits and pieces are as they should be , the paintwork is average at best , but after a few hours fettling , it did a brilliant job planting spuds this morning.

    Hirth
    Acme
    Corborn (spelling???)
    Jowett/Bradford
    British Junior
    Howard

I would hazard a guess the list would run into the hundreds , that’s without getting old stationary engines involved.

Thanks for that Alan , interestingly a chap in the village has a Hayterette with the Suzuki mx120 twostroke engine.

You’re right Angus , I’ve seen the Hayter 21/osprey with the JLO engine.

You gents are spot on , it’s a JLO engine , and it DOESN’T have a diaphragm carb , JLO normally sourced their carbs from Bing , plenty of parts for these are available on the continent.

Not much help I know , but it’s quite an early one , as it has the 11C engine fitted.

Always check floats in COLD water , as much as I hate the modern world , ultrasonic cleaners are the way to go , they will clear carbs that no amount of compressed air will ever do.
Meetens are sadly no longer with us , Paul Childs(the leading man on Villiers/JAP on this planet) sold the buisness quite some time ago , L&S engineers bought the remaining stock , but sadly lack Pauls knowledge and expertise.

Angus , personally I would stick to the corks , I try to make a habit of regularly starting my machines around every three weeks ,and run them for a couple of minutes. I find this keeps your corks OK. The downfall of this is of course remembering to keep the habit up.The alternative is to run all the fuel out of tank and carb , then remove the plunger and leave in paraffin over the storage period.
The MUST rule is NEVER USE E10 petrol , it will eat corks quicker than you can put them in.

Villiers MK12 , fitted with reduction box , the HS denotes High Speed , used in numerous agricultural/industrial machines where slow RPM was required.

Sadly that’s the way of the modern world , if it isn’t on the computer the majority don’t want to know , they won’t even open a box or package to give you measurements , so frustrating , as I’m finding out trying to source air filters.
