vhgmcbuddyMemberOnly number I can find so far is “55X” stamped just under the magneto points cover into the top of the crankcase. I have had a look in the survivor link and other engine numbers appear longer. Would you be able to tell me where abouts on the left hand side please?

vhgmcbuddyMemberMany thanks for all your input Neil, am with the machine now but no luck just yet, any ideas where the engine number should be as I may as well try and find that while I am here.
Many thanks

vhgmcbuddyMemberthanks alan i appriciate that but as it’s not mine i just need a decent price for my customer as there cannot be many left in new condition, and if it goes to someone that is going to use it that will be a shame but i suppose it will be used for the job it was made to do, i will take and upload some pics soon

vhgmcbuddyMemberNeil,
Many thanks for the reply. Am i right in believing there was two plates rivoted to the rear of the machine. Which plate carried the serial number? I can clearly see four small rivot holes to the top right (when viewed from behind) any idea where the other plate was as its not obvious just yet. Will try and get the wire wheel across it. I have read other posts about numbers on gear box covers, anybody have any success with this? I have looked into retrieving the registration document but dvla wont release it until i can give them a vin/chassis/serial numberAugust 20, 2016 at 9:45 pm #22014

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks for that. I had the phrase stuck valve in my mind but wasn’t sure it was a thing.
Any guides online on removing the head and checking the valves and putting it all back together again?

vhgmcbuddyMemberTry simplybearings.co.uk ,failing that when I wanted an odd ball bearing (imperial centre and width yet metric outer )I got the next size down outer in imperial and had a sleeve made that fitted around the outside with a dollop of loctite.

vhgmcbuddyMemberYes both machines owed by me, I realised that I probably would not realise full value selling together, and now have decided that they would be best sold privately to fellow collectors so there location remains known, instead of going off the radar as things usually do.
