MemberYea Charlie, it is the A1483HZ but my problem starts with him taking the rotor arm out without making a note of where it should syncronise to. There is no mark on the rotor although there is a witness arrow on the small drive shaft, opposite the keyway. The rotor has been damaged in the past but it did work until he decided to leave it out in the rain, this is when he took it apart to dry it out, no problem “I’ll give it to Phil, he’ll fix it”?
Attached are photos of what I have. I presume then I can stick my finger in the plug hole, feel for the piston and time the points just before TDC.
Or at least that’s what I was thinking, not worked with this type of mag before.Cheeers!

MemberExcellent! Thank you for your replies, I’ll try and give Hayter a call over the next week.
As for the RAL colours I have RAL fan with 192 colours and think they are closet to the following.
The hammerite green style paint is closet to RAL1020 Olive Yellow.
I think the older mowers are made up of RAL 6036 Pearl Opal Green for the engine and RAL 6000 Patina Green for the deck.
If anyone else has any thoughts I’d be keen to hear.
Thanks again.

MemberLucky Chap! I have a merry tiller, and quite a few a Attachments, but I have never seen a water pump or compressor for one, I must start looking!I have an early model like your machine in the photo, also a “Spartan” which I use a lot, but I am wondering if it,s possible to switch the gear box off my “GT” merry tiller, and implant it on the “Spartan”, NOT for the purist,s I know, but it would make a much more sturdy Machine and the gearing would be very useful.

MemberDear Angus and Andy.
One additional question: my carburetor is a Villiers B.10/1. Which direction should the needle on the float be oriented? up or down? When re-assembling the carb I put the needle down, but I was not sure and the manual would not give that detail.
Of note that the engine works well with it’s carburetor and muffler. I filled up the carb hose with fuel (around 10 ml) and it worked for a few seconds. There is a small leak at the hose so did not dear using any temporary tank to get it running longer and do any carb adjustments. -
