Had a lucky find today. While going through some of the photos I took when stripping the Trusty down, I noticed that there was a stepped boss with a piece of rod attaching it to the top of the crash bar (see photo). This looked remarkably like the missing throttle rod block for the twist grip. Went rummaging through the bits I had removed from the tractor and took the more detailed photo. It’s definitely the throttle rod block, so is one less bit that I need to get manufactured. Couldn’t believe it had been staring me in the face all this time!!!!

Fairly large at 27 inches overall length and in good nick when i got it – so no cleaning!

Hi chaps.
Well I am mostly there anyhow.
Thus far I have new rings, points and condenser. I’d have changed the coil too probably but there don’t seem to be any in the country from the usual suppliers.
I won’t bother with anything else until I change the coil now, but if I have time I will split the case and check the main bearings. I do know that the small end is OK.

Thanks for all the advice. I really like the challenge, and do want to achieve an engine that starts first pull to.

I understand a few bits are quite rare. I have spoken to someone who thinks the hydraulic are for a different gutbrod model and another who asures me they will fit, only time will tell.

Any tips for the successful removal of the very rusty exhaust.

Hello I new to the forum and mini tractors, so be gentle with me!

Here’s my little Allen Superior based on a gutbrod 1030 with a few of its toys(see photos), there’s a front bucket, forks, hydraulic pump and frame, hydraulic arms, a rotavator, snow plough(grader) and a sprayer and finger mower not in the photos.

I’m the third owner, the tractor was bought second had by my father and kept in v good condition, unfortunately it was lent to someone who kept it for 18 years in very poor way and it is now in the condition you can see in the photos.

I understand that the hydraulics should fit despite them never being fitted.

I’ve had it started today in a cloud of white smoke. There may be some water in the fuel, or it may have oil getting passed the piston rings, hopefully its just because it hasn’t been run for a while and the oil has leaked through.

I have a mountain of questions to ask, as I would like to get all the bits working, here’s a few just to kick things off.

Few I’m in the market for a mower deck for it if anybody knows of one. Failing that either a bodged one from a different machine if anybody has any suggestions, or a pull one of some kind.

Also what size battery should it have, or what fits?

How loud should it be? Its exhaust the worse for ware which doesn’t help but it is very very noisy at the moment, where is the best place to buy a replacement exhaust?

Hi guys. Thanks very much for that info.
Andy, I get a nice strong spark, so I think that the coil is OK. I am loathe to spend another £60 on a coil if I don’t need it. I think that the timing is still a bit out so will adjust tomorrow.
Stuart, great info about the needle – I knew it was the mixture but could not find any info about adjustment.
I never split the crank case, so don’t really know about the crank bearings at the moment. There is a bit of vibration, so wouldn’t be at all surprised if they were worn. I’ll change them if I get further on with the machine. At least when it does run all the gearboxes seems to be working ok and I have both drive speeds and the tines working.
One last thing, I suspect that the brass arm that sits on the float and lifts the main inlet needle may be bent. Is there a measurement for setting the float lift? Is it worth renewing the needle and seating?

I have sent an email of complaint to the T&M editor and have receieved a fairly bland reply, as have other people, sounds like mixed messages are coming out, my subscription to T&M may well be cancelled before long…
