Sorry just been in for my second eye to be done and a replacement lens but by the look of the first picture I think you have to pull all that hair off it. Just be careful if you apply heat, don’t want the garage to catch fire.

I believe a years pay for a gardener is £17.000 – £18.000 these days. I wouldn’t want to pay that for a rotavator. And theirs a lot more getting way beyond these figures. I wonder what that £120 a year would buy back then, apart from a Rototiller.

Thanks Charlie. About 1950 I see with a shay engine, it was in good order for that age.

Thanks Alan. This was home made, the MT depth bar was welded up front with the foot still on it. Someone must have had a big plot or market garden to warrant using it. No good in my little patch.

Thanks for your replies, I would think your right. A few at the sale said bean planter, but a lot thought it was a potato planter. But it wouldn’t have taken out a big enough drill for potato’s.

Is there a grease nipple in the the housing shaft on the opposite side to your photo ? if so fill a grease gun with diesel and squirt in as its cooling down from the applied heat. leave 2 or 3 days and give it a try. as jtg says block up the two holes first. good luck.
