vhgmcbuddyMemberI understand a few bits are quite rare. I have spoken to someone who thinks the hydraulic are for a different gutbrod model and another who asures me they will fit, only time will tell.
Any tips for the successful removal of the very rusty exhaust.
Thanks
Jon

vhgmcbuddyMemberHello I new to the forum and mini tractors, so be gentle with me!
Here’s my little Allen Superior based on a gutbrod 1030 with a few of its toys(see photos), there’s a front bucket, forks, hydraulic pump and frame, hydraulic arms, a rotavator, snow plough(grader) and a sprayer and finger mower not in the photos.
I’m the third owner, the tractor was bought second had by my father and kept in v good condition, unfortunately it was lent to someone who kept it for 18 years in very poor way and it is now in the condition you can see in the photos.
I understand that the hydraulics should fit despite them never being fitted.
I’ve had it started today in a cloud of white smoke. There may be some water in the fuel, or it may have oil getting passed the piston rings, hopefully its just because it hasn’t been run for a while and the oil has leaked through.
I have a mountain of questions to ask, as I would like to get all the bits working, here’s a few just to kick things off.
Few I’m in the market for a mower deck for it if anybody knows of one. Failing that either a bodged one from a different machine if anybody has any suggestions, or a pull one of some kind.
Also what size battery should it have, or what fits?
How loud should it be? Its exhaust the worse for ware which doesn’t help but it is very very noisy at the moment, where is the best place to buy a replacement exhaust?
Thanks for any help
Jon

vhgmcbuddyMemberHi guys. Thanks very much for that info.
Andy, I get a nice strong spark, so I think that the coil is OK. I am loathe to spend another £60 on a coil if I don’t need it. I think that the timing is still a bit out so will adjust tomorrow.
Stuart, great info about the needle – I knew it was the mixture but could not find any info about adjustment.
I never split the crank case, so don’t really know about the crank bearings at the moment. There is a bit of vibration, so wouldn’t be at all surprised if they were worn. I’ll change them if I get further on with the machine. At least when it does run all the gearboxes seems to be working ok and I have both drive speeds and the tines working.
One last thing, I suspect that the brass arm that sits on the float and lifts the main inlet needle may be bent. Is there a measurement for setting the float lift? Is it worth renewing the needle and seating?
Thanks again.

vhgmcbuddyMemberI have sent an email of complaint to the T&M editor and have receieved a fairly bland reply, as have other people, sounds like mixed messages are coming out, my subscription to T&M may well be cancelled before long…

vhgmcbuddyMemberBugger – changed the mixture to a more sensible ratio and now I can start it again.
Turns over with a drill and I just get the occasional fire.
Anyone have any experience setting up the V648C carbs?

vhgmcbuddyMemberNice tractor, a bit of a long shot but would it be worth trying to find out if anyone has the JLO engine records.

vhgmcbuddyMemberIt doesn’t really look home made to me, and looks as though it was rather expensive when new, those wheel motors can’t have been cheap.
The chap I bought it from was clearing an elderly neighbours place which is where its from, and the elderly gentleman said it came from the Coventry climax factory when it closed in 1986 and has been in his barn ever since, maybe someone knows someone who worked at coventry climax who may remember this machine and maybe shed some lift on its identity?May 13, 2014 at 6:11 pm #8042
vhgmcbuddyMemberThats a very rotton MK1 scythe you have there!!
At a guess 1934/5 ish.
Looks a bit far gone in places. You need wheels for starters, it looks like its been out side for a long time
Yes Karl has one & one even earlier than this!

vhgmcbuddyMemberThankyou everyone for the replies, I will take a look and try figure it out. And Dieselhead, its still an on-going project but should be garaged again by this winter then I can finally put the body panels on and make the finishing touches. My tractor has got a replacement engine fitted (as you know I had many problems finding a replacement, they are like finding chickens teeth!) but is still an original 16hp B&S single cylinder engine and we’ve had it driving under its own steam (as it were) in the garden haha. We had a new brake disc made as we couldn’t find the original but should do just fine. So it is near completion but things are holding me back at the moment with it not being garaged and other stuff (Exams, Revision and time etc)

vhgmcbuddyMemberWell after a bit more tinkering, she’s running.
Lots of miss-firing at the moment as I have an oily mix to bed the new rings in, but I have throttle control, and drive to both the wheels and the tines.Hooray!
Not managed to start when hot yet – I guess that’s a 2-stroke thing. Any tips?
Also, what oil should be in the bottom of the air filter cup?
Actually, I’ve not got a hose on at the moment which probably isn’t helping the mixture either.Jim

vhgmcbuddyMemberIt will prob be the points under the flywheel which will be your prob. You will have to remove it to get to them
