Dont often see old ladies using allen scythes! Let alone taking them apart!!

Never seen or heard of one ever breaking gears in the gearbox

I am sure I have some new old stock gears you need. I cant be sure till I go to the workshop & look

Thanks for the very detailed instructions Geoff.

On your Norton engined Trusty, when you turn the twist grip on the handlebars fully clockwise, how far does the throttle butterfly on the carb rotate from the idle position when pulled by the linkage? In other words, when the twist grip is in the fully clockwise position, is the carb butterfly aligned the same as the middle diagram on the document attached in post #1 or is it the same as the lower diagram?

GOOD NEWS after a 400 mile round trip dragging a trailer I now have another Nickerson Turfmaster 84 gifted to me by a fellow enthusiast known here as Johnadi to whom I am eternally grateful. Thank you Johnadi, you are a hero, the Turfmasters are very happy side by side in my barn.

Thanks for that Andrew, have taken it to bits and turned the disc over, will reassemble and test tomorrow. Think it probably fooled me as the hole in the valve chest cover comes out close to the exhaust also the plug was badly oiled up when I first took it apart.Plug looks dry now but probably over rich mixture as it is well sooted up.
I note from an exploded diagram I have found that the valve chest cover should have a baffle or is that the tin shield you mention?
Thanks anyway for pointing me away from the wild goose chase I was probably about to start.
