Hi I think your Landmaster could be a Kestrel Mk 1, if you google landmaster kestrel manual you can down load or view a manual with parts list, you can then see if it is like yours. If you could fine part No it might help with finding that part.

Update:

Many thanks for your various suggestions, I have tried them all, and I believe I have now found the cause. I have removed the head and valves, and found a lot of play in the inlet valve, so I think that on the induction stroke it was sucking air past the valve stem. Although the piston and bore do seem OK, I have removed the cylinder and am having it rebored with an oversized piston fitted and new valve guides. The existing valves will be re-faced or replaced as necessary. I’ll report back later!

i have done this and the rotor was not lose and when you start to use it it grips then after 2 or 3mins it just stops with very little force required
i took off the top plates and to be honest i have never seen a more greased machine in my life ,,all chains were in place and all i could feel was there appeared to be something that felt rubbery on one of the shafts deep inside the machine on the rotor drive could this be a couch drive? to take the shock out of the chains //////the clutch was not slipping as far as i could tell also one other thought has occured since i read your reply wether one of the drive cogs to the rotor has snapped off the key on the shaft ans the gear is slipping on the shaft as only the grub screw would be holding it other than that i have at this no clue thanks for replying

Perhaps try a little engine oil in the plug hole, turn a couple of times, replace plug and try to start. Improves the suction. Wont do any harm.

Thanks for the encouragement. I don’t think I will get fed up. My prime reason for getting the machine was that I have an interest in a field that needs and cultivating digging. The task of doing that manually was daunting. I was thinking of asking someone to come in and plow it for me. Then I saw the Trusty for sale very close to me. I have always enjoyed getting an old engine going. So, I am in for the long haul. I spent the day recently at the Isle of Wight Memorial Ploughing Match, looked a lot, talked a bit and learnt a) a bit and b) that there is a lot to learn. I have no plans to enter but I definitely want to learn to plow.

I was too unaware/ignorant to notice if my Trusty had a tip on the plough when I got it so I don’t reallt know if I broke it off or not. I think I must have done. Perhaps I should look for a metal detector now I know how chunky a thing it is

Just in case anyone is following the tip saga I attach a picture of the left side of the tipless tip with a measurement to go with the photo above.

Thanks Geoff. Much appreciated. My efforts to learn to plow have knocked the machine about a bit, but I am getting better. I have the start sorted, indeed it has started from cold with just one pull. I have the tick over very nearly sorted. I am learning the various bits of the plough that need tightening, tweeking ect. My plowing is still very poor.

Don’t think I would have paid £450 for a hydraulic 3 point linkage, if anyone wants to pay £500 Ive got one and I’ll chuck in some link arms free of charge !!!!

I have lost the bolt on share/tip/point off the plough. Does anyone have any ideas as to the make and where I might get a replacement?

Thanks, Owen. I’ve tried that – no luck with petrol. I did get it to fire up (nicely) with easy-start (ether based) in the plug hole, but after a few revs it stopped again. Easy start into the carb intake didn’t work, though. I’m going to have a look at the intake valve again tomorrow; I wonder if there might be wear in the guide.
