think gearbox is no good as lever will go round in a circle now ?????
think something must have snapped inside ?
anyone came across this befor ?

been playing with the engine today , got it running aftor a little bit of work
need to have a look at gearbox as lever is stuck and will not change
could anyone tell me how the pull start work on gear box ?
as mine does not seam to be catching anything inside ?

Sorry Plonker I did wonder if you meant this one or the Norlet power spade, wrong on both counts. I didn’t know of this other tool you mention, learn something every day. See what I can find.

My Fault Owen, Interesting video though, The tool I was thinking of is the one that takes a spade blade, or fork and is motor driven from what I think is a small JAP engine, I think Paul Mackellow pictured one on the old club site, but I cant remember what it is called, anyone know what I am talking about?

Afternoon Gents,

Thanks for your welcome and help.

I’ll give John a call once I have a complete list of the bits I’ll need to complete the job – otherwise I’ll be calling him every day and I’ll end up being a pest!

I has a slight problem a couple of nights ago – taking one of the front wheels off and discovered the split pin had rusted in there good and proper. Started drilling it out carefully then the drill bit snapped off, not leaving enough to grip onto to pull it out again.

I’ll try to punch it out over the weekend. I’ll update with pics as I go along.

Some parts have already started arriving in dribs and drabs – gasket set, spark plug, diaphragm kit, air filter, fuel cap and such like. Blades, muffler and carb screw are on order and due in a couple of weeks from the states, along with a B&S sticker set.

Anyway, here’s a pic from Wed night after another hour or so stripping it down.

Thanks for the reply.
It is a Bristol 10 tracked tractor with an Austin 10 engine.
Half the engine is missing and most of the bodywork.
As you can see the gearbox is pretty rusted because the main steering shaft and gears were removed, leaving it open to the weather. I have poured in a whole bunch of old motor oil to loosen everything up. I will leave it for a few days and see if I can salvage something.The steering shaft and clutches and gears are also missing.
We are currently taking it all apart and will send everything off for sand blasting, followed by a good primer paint coat.
Would you have, or know of, any spares for this beast?

I have just finished restoring a Caterpillar No. 1 Terracer and was looking for a period tracked tractor to pull the Terracer. That is why I bought the Bristol 10.
