ransomes256ParticipantHi,
Neil Jarrett here and can confirm I would send parts to Chile but have checked and generally it can be expensive. In the case of a set of replacment track rubbers it would nearly double the price. Please note this is only my hobby but should generally be able to assist. Is it possible your MG5 was used for mining rather than agriculture as many accross the world were being small but very strong.
If you email me at njarrett@btinternet.com I will send you a copy of my available new spares list.

ransomes256ParticipantJonathan,
It is a strange failure as it appears more like a hydraulic lock failure that you would get from a water cooled engine. There is so much space in the head that with the engine running you would never get that much fuel up the top.
Any sign of anything jamming the crank or big end?

ransomes256ParticipantFor all MG2 owners I have taken the plunge and this week expect delivery of some remanufactured steel flywheels. These will be available on a first come first served basis and are unlikely to be repeated.

ransomes256ParticipantCharlie,
You are correct Apart from the MG2, MG5 and some MG6 there were a number of mowers and the Ransomes overgreen fitted with versions of the 244 and model 15 Amal carburettors which all use the same float.
I really need to consider the demand carefully as based on the minimum order and tooling costs the financial outlay is considerable. I have also just committed to tooling for a batch of fuel pump glass bowls for the MG5 and MG6 engines. (I still have glass bowls for the MG2 Autoklean filter)
As and when I get anything I will put them for sale in the cultivator.
One day I will retire !!!

ransomes256ParticipantWe need to get some serious commitments to order these before we could consider manufacture due to the set up costs.
If you do think you need a flywheel please do not sit back and wait for them to be available as currently it appears there is not enough demand.

ransomes256ParticipantPaula and I are currently self isolating but still managing to ship parts.
Generally if over 2kg I can currently get a courier to collect from my doorstep so no contact. Smaller items (less than 2kg) are a bit more difficult but our local shop who is also the Post Office are doing food order deliveries to the village so as long as I need something they are willing to take my packets from the step.
I am not sure how long this situation will continue if the Government has to enforce a tighter control on people movements.
Please all stay safe and well.

ransomes256ParticipantBrett,
I do not know for sure but I have some NOS Amal 398 carburettors and spares (for Ransomes MG crawlers) which I believe are based on the same arrangement as the 397 but with a horizontal rather than vertical mounting flange.
There should be a spring on the choke lever which should prevent the problems of the choke self closing.

ransomes256ParticipantHi,
As my hobbyI have a lot of the spares and a copy of the manual .
Please send me a direct email njarrett@btinternet.com

ransomes256ParticipantLouis / Dave,
Although the carburettor may need to be a Amal 244/873 it is more likely it should have been a Amal 356/1 and I believe the pump would need to be Amal 150/861A
I would need to see photographs of the engine to be more accurate.
Regards

ransomes256ParticipantLouis,
Both the carburettor and fuel pumps are unique to the Ransomes MG and are scarce items.
I have the majority of new spares for the tractors but currently neither of the two items but if you email me at njarrett@btinternet.com and I will send you a list.

ransomes256ParticipantKeith,
No such thing as a stupid question just one you need an answer to.
In general the magneto only needs a little oil and only about every 200 hours so I guess with a vintage machine not that often. Use engine oil and only a few drops required assuming lubricated when serviced.
I use a conventional hand oil can but it is not easy to get access or see what you are doing.

ransomes256ParticipantJonathan,
I have always been puzzled by this.
You are correct about the move but not the colour. Never under stood why.
If you consider the ploughs were always the lighter blue.
As you know I have had many new original parts for the later machines and they are all the darker Orwell blue.
Nearly all owner restorers paint with a gloss finish but all the parts are a matt / eggshell finish.
Your early MG2 was painted a different light blue green colour (cannot remember what you discovered)
NeilAugust 9, 2019 at 5:39 pm #31712
ransomes256ParticipantJonathan,
You have the colours the wrong way round.
Orwell is the darker blue and Nacton the lighter.
So Orwell is on late MG5, MG6 and MG40
Nacton is on MG2 and early MG5
