ParticipantHello Tony
Have you checked under the ‘U’ shaped bracket that is bolted on the back? There might be a hole through the base section that would take the handle. Have a look at the attached picture, it is a zoomed in section of one of the brochures. It looks like it shows a back end similar to yours. The plough looks like it is mounted via the two bolts that you have at the rear of your machine. From the brochure it looks like the ‘extension tool bar’ also bolts on here. Perhaps this was the standard back end for the mk2.

ParticipantCan’t add anything to the advice you have already been given on the oil, other than I have also used Morris Oils. I think it was the gear oil I got from them.
As for the pressure release valve in the pump, the manual states it is set to give 500 PSI.
Any chance you could post a few photos?

ParticipantHi, I got the dimensions of my Troy Tractivator handle at the weekend. It’s just taken me a couple of days to get time to sit at my computer. It is sort of buried at the back various bits and pieces and as such couldn’t be got out so I hope the photos are okay.
The photo of the rear of your machine shows where the rod connects coming from the top of the handles, this pushes in to engage drive to the wheels.
If the PDF with the dimensions does not open let me know and I can email it to you.
If you cannot readily source tubing of the correct size you could always turn a short section of steel to fit the hole on the base of your machine and then weld whatever tube you can get on top of this.
I do not have access to a photocopier large enough to do the two brochures that I have. What I can do is photograph them and then crop the image to the size of the brochure and then email you the pics.Rob

ParticipantHello Tony, welcome to the forum. I have a Mk I Troy Tractivator in my collection.
I have a plough and set of discs for mine, your brushcutter attachment looks interesting.
I will try and get you some dimensions for the handle this weekend. Looking at my photos does the rear of your machine look the same as mine where the handle connects?

ParticipantThanks for the info, I think my exhaust would probably benefit from a good clean out. Like your engine my MG40 is not smokey, just noticed the oil.
Thanks

ParticipantThat’s a nice find. It’s in reasonable condition too.
I have found my exhaust to be a bit oily when working the MG40, would you notice any oil coming from the exhaust on your machine? I have zero experience with two-stroke diesels and don’t know if this is to be expected.December 30, 2014 at 1:27 am #11263crawler
ParticipantHello Joe
I have attached two French brochures for the MG40. The first one does not show the rear of the tractor unfortunately. The second one for the MG40 N shows the same type of lift arrangement that is fitted to my MG40.
I wonder if what you are describing is the ‘cable lift’ arrangement as opposed to the hydraulic lift on the MG40 N ?
My MG40 has a French hydraulic pump made by Jenner instead of the standard pump you would find on UK MG’s. I have some photos somewhere.
Regards

ParticipantA gathering of MG’s sounds interesting, getting over from Northern Ireland with my lorry is a bit on the expensive side though so I will have to pass.
With regard to the video of the digger-dozer, I think YouTube would be your best bet as the forum has a size limit on files you can upload.Rob

ParticipantWow, that looks good. Glad you managed to get the engine sorted. If that was me I would get a bit carried away with it and something resembling the Grand Canyon would be in my garden. Hope you get a video of it in action sometime.

ParticipantThat hydraulic lift looks like a very handy gadget. You have done a remarkable job on the MG6.
Any updates on the engine rebuild?Rob

ParticipantHello Chris
After a relative passed away recently a number of old trade magazines from when my grandfather had his market garden have come into my possession. I had a quick look through them and had been meaning to scan some of the adverts that would be of interest to members on here. On reading your post the name Brosson rang a bell, I have just had a look again and in ‘Nurseryman & Seedsman’ dated 22 April 1954 I found the attached advert. Hope it’s what you are looking for.
