A good second hand one may be the only option. More costly option, if the correct gear cannot be found, is to get one made.

If what comes out of gearbox looks like good but used old oil I would just refill with new oil, SAE 90. Cutter bar gearbox oil recommended in manual is Shell X100 SAE40. Knife clips should be set to touch knife but allow it to move freely.

Kill switch is not essential but does make stopping the engine easier.

Check wires for continuity, especially from coil to points. Another problem could be high resistance between the back plate, which is aluminium, and items attached to it which use the back plate as a return path.Is HT lead making good contact with the contact point on the coil?

If the engine is a Villiers Mk 12 it should be a 15, the 30 has a Mk15 which is the OHV engine. Looking at the parts list it does not show any bushes.

Welcome to the forum. Looking in the parts book the following belt and pulley options are listed for the cutter bar.
Model 15 9″ OD pulley and an A 40 vee belt.
Councillor tractor 5 3/4″ pulley with B 46 vee belt
Mark 22 tractor 10″ od pulley with A 42 vee belt.
For the tractor an A 43 vee belt
The ratchet hubs may well be full of dust and dirt but are fairly straight forward to take apart.

Welcome, a lot of us start with something small, but be warned this hobby is very addictive and before you know it you will have a shed or two full. Transport can be an issue but it is surprising what can be fitted in with a bit of ingenuity and a set of spanners. Good luck in your search. Full membership includes The Cultivator magazine which has a Sale and Wanted section.

Alan, very sorry to hear about the theft, keep an eye on that auction site. Whoever took them clearly only wanted the easily sold on machines and not the attachments, the plough is fairly distinct.

Now tell me you didn’t plan the holiday around spotting the item on that auction site. A good find.

I had a quick search for AMAL spares and found this on the Burlen Ltd website which might help Stay Up Floats

Microsoft Office picture manager has an option to compress photo and list e mail or web etc. There must be a similar option on a Mac. If you open your photo editing software and use help to find ‘compress photo’ it should give the answer, possibly resize. No need to take photo again on different camera.
