ParticipantChampion 8COM , which are quite hard to source these days , they do come up from time to time on that certain auction site.
Lodge C3 , once again hard to find , but are way and beyond the best plug.
Failing this , the modern equivalent Champion K17 , NGK do a match , but personally I would avoid at all costs.
Hope this helps.Andy.

ParticipantTo a certain extent, yes I do. Most of my machines have the original ploughs with them , but that’s just how I came across them. I really do wish I had the cultivators and other attachments to fit them instead , as I’m a user of my old gear , I (would) spend far more time cultivating than actually ploughing.
My main gripe with ploughing events is the seemingly endless list of rules , I certainly can’t be doing with too many of those for a hobby that I see as relaxation , but each to their own. How many times have we all seen so called grown men arguing and falling out over a furrow being 5mm out of line.Andy.

ParticipantCharlie , my local allotment society are using this , several of us keep machinery in sheds on our plots , touchwood no problems thus far. It’s a brilliant idea , provided of course that you remember where you’ve marked it.
I would reccomend any owner of machinery to use it no matter where you keep it.Andy.

ParticipantKev , really appreciate all your efforts….top man. Pleased to say the Coleby is up and running , haven’t had time to try it at work , I’m relying on Ethan to do that.

ParticipantSwampy , stick at it I’m sure you will get there eventually. Having never worked on any Monrotillers , I’m not in position to comment on their engineering standards , what I can say is that I’m now working on a Rowtrac (made by the same company) and the standard of design and engineering is truly woeful , with so many design flaws there is little wonder they never sold well.

ParticipantI can confirm that the key for the Amal twinjet carb on a Seagull will fit the jets in the Simar Carb.

ParticipantIf all else fails , I can send you a good jet for a pattern to have one made (sorry I would need it back) , the carb it’s off is a spare one for a Rowtrac that I’m now working on , which strangley enough , although a Villiers engine it has the same carb as a 56A.
I would be fairly confident that the jet sizes would be the same.Andy.

ParticipantCharlie , take comfort , you are not alone. I recently took on another allotment , sprayed and burnt it off……..really clean already for ploughing. I’m working on the Rowtrac at present , which is still in a thousand bits right in the main doorway , and it seemed a mammoth task to move it to get one of my ploughing machines out. Her who must be obeyed is not overly ammused as I promised loads more produce would be coming home from the new plot.
Her handbags and shoes always seem to manage to be neatly stored in cupboards…..where do we go wrong??Andy.

ParticipantJim , I fear you may be looking at problems that may well not exist. My first action on any Villiers twostroke , is a complete stripdown , firstly, and in my opinion , get the ignition unit tested on a proper purpose built tester , if the coil shows ANY sign of weakness , renew it , the condenser will either be OK or Duff….no half measures.
Next step(assuming the big and little ends are OK) is to asses wear on the main bearings and seals , yours will more than likely have the far better brass gland bushes for seals (later 25Cs had conventional oil seals) , if either the bearings and seals show any signs of wear , again renew them.
Lastly check the cylinder for wear , more often than not a new set of rings will cure the problem.
I’m fully aware this may sound expensive , but trust me in the long run it is money well spent , it will put the machine back into service for many years to come , and will give effortless starting.
I have a 25c on an Auto Culto , that I gave the full works to , admittedly I had all the parts already on the shelf , but it is now a joy to go to it , and see and hear it start first pull every time.Andy.

ParticipantFirst things first , MAKE SURE your ignition system is all A1 , it sounds to me as if that may be your problem.
Andy.
