I swapped the coil on my 1968 Merry Tiller for an electronic one, easy job and it always has a good spark now. I wish i could sort the carb. as easily!

Date is the last numbers backwards you have 65 05 25 4
4 is the line or factory
so the rest works out to 25th May 1965! So they could trace exactly who built it!

If anyone’s interested in the Uni-horse 700, see the April 2018 issue, there’s a good description of it on the back page.

Looks like an early Merry Tiller tool bar, early Merry Tillers had a round hole in the hitch but later ones with the cast hitch could take both round and rectangular tool connectors.

Your GT6 probably has more in common with that Reliant engine than just the Lucas Electrics. Reliant poached the Triumph designer when they were swapping from the Austin 7 derived side-valve 750cc engine to the 600 cc OHV unit for the first OHV Reliants. These engines were wet-linered all-aluminium units and developed 25bhp. Apart from the Allett mower they were also used in the Uni-horse 700 tractor.

Here’s a spec. sheet for the James Comet L1. 98cc. 1956-1964 which used the S12 carb.

The carb you need is an S12, as used on small motorcycles from James & Francis Barnett before they started using the dreaded AMC engines! Villiersparts.co.uk do a refurbished one, or https://www.themowercentrehailsham.com/
