vhgmcbuddyMemberMore information being gleaned for the Clifford, with the machine came a Ridger, which you can see has been modified to fit some other machine, also a Pump and a PTO, I can not see how either of these attachments would fit, the PTO does have the Clifford “Driving dog”, but it is too short to fit with the main driving shaft, the pump, has no projecting driving shaft at all, The pump is certainly Clifford as you can spot one in the literature on leaflets etc. any ideas? ALSO, very interesting, there is a CLifford Forum on Facebook, anyone know why?

vhgmcbuddyMemberSpeaking as a new member it worked very well for me and my paperwork came very quickly too. Thanks for that. The website is very good, full of useful information just a bit of a shame that it is not used more considering the number of members but forums are not everyones cup of tea so top marks all round.

vhgmcbuddyMemberHi rollomk6,
Afraid there not very good pictures, but it’s quite dark inside my workshop without the big doors open. Maybe put some better pics on here later.
It only has just one fuel tank, which I have cleaned out.
There is no throttle cable on there at the moment as I need to get a new one. The old one is not serviceable.
I bought this Cultmate in peices, as a project, so have not had her running as yet. Just need a throttle cable and a fuel pipe from the tank, to the carberettor. Might make one up with an inline fuel filter in it.
I have the two original side panel, but they are very thin, and nearly perished, so I will keep them off until I can get two new ones made. (using the old ones as a template)
Work is fairly quiet for me in January and February, so I am hoping to crack on and get her finished ready for the spring ploughing matches.December 21, 2018 at 11:21 am #29913

vhgmcbuddyMemberThe cowling does have a brass plate on it, but is worn to the point that there seems to be nothing on it. All I need to do now is try and find out what year it was made…..will hopefully put some photos up over the Christmas holidays, as it’s been manic at work…!!!

vhgmcbuddyMemberYou can certainly try a glow plug but if it was starting OK before then it should start without one now. You have replaced the injector and presuming that it is functioning as it should then it must be something else that you have done or not done during the replacement. I know how tempting it is to keep taking things to bits to try to solve a problem but the more you touch the harder it is to locate the fault. I have been guilty of the same many times. I am not at all familiar with these engines so I am just guessing from afar but is the fuel pump working as it should at all throttle openings? I had a slide stick in a fordson tractor so that the excess fuel button stayed out and I had to pull a fuel line off before I could stop it and the smoke could could be seen from space!
How do you stop the engine normally? How much smoke comes out of the exhaust when you try to start it? Your best bet is probably to get somebody else to cast a fresh pair of eyes over it. Worked for me on a twin carbed car which I couldn’t get to run. He said have you checked the plugs are getting fuel. Yes I replied. All of them? No just checked the no 1 plug. Turned out one carb had a stuck needle valves. I had spent days on it and it was sorted in 5 minutes. Tell people where you are located i bet somebody would love to help outDecember 16, 2018 at 2:31 pm #29887

vhgmcbuddyMemberThank you Charlie, it would appear to be an easy answer/solution to collate the various dates, etc… However not being exactly IT literate, I have no idea how to set such a thing up, and must bow to the experience of others.

vhgmcbuddyMemberThanks to every one for there ideas on how to get my Sachs diesel engine started all of which I have tried. I have checked the compression which registered at 320 psi and to date have fitted a reconditioned starter motor, reconditioned injector and had the fuel pump has been reconditioned, but still no luck with it starting. Reading through the manual I see there is a glow plug fitted and I should be able to preheat on the key but there is no lamp and I don’t know where the glow plug is, any help on this would be appreciated

vhgmcbuddyMemberHi Plonker, The engine has no markings on it other than the numbers I have already listed. I don’t think it is a MAP engine, as they normally have j.a.p. stamped on the engine casing somewhere. I would just like to find out the history of this Cultmate….any help would be appreciated. Might be able to upload some pictures over the Christmas hilidays. Many thanks.

vhgmcbuddyMemberHello Andy, the SACHS 600cc engine was installed in the Ransome MG40’s, which there are a few of them about.
