Hi Chris, unfortunately it is suspected oil pump failure, I didn’t have a lot of time to diagnose, but the piston was fairly dry when I took it apart. TBH, until I get a chance to strip the pump down, I’m keeping an eye out for a machine with a shot gearbox but a decent engine… I could be a long time looking.

Looked like the oil pump on the engine failed Chris when I saw it after Andrew took it apart

Although I already have the funnel & strainer that came with the original sprayer (code CM8290 & CM8291) I laid my hands on this one this week which I cleaned up (see photos). My original one is still coated with grease and has waxed paper on the handle, so I thought I’d see what it looked like originally.

As you can see there’s quite a difference between the state it arrived in and after a polish!

It is mainly copper, with brass spout, and what appears to be part chromed strainer, with iron/steel handles.

I’m looking forward to it Dave. I shan’t be bringing the Simar this time, as it needs a lot of work before it is used seriously again, but I plan on borrowing Rickys Howard 700 as well as bringing my Hayter 21 (Only because it will be 10 years almost to the day that I found it), so long as the new engine is built/fitted and assuming that there is an area of grass to cut this year. I might also bring the Barford and trailer, as I have finally got it running right.

Apparently so Jonathan, although Neil has kindly gave me some postcodes of people near me he has sold too.

It would have been good to get the Scottish crawler owners together, but i imagine would be quite a task as it appears there’s not any on here. There was somebody on the old forum though called Thomas??

The RHS Lindley Library in Russell Square London has the complete year runs, to enter the Library you have to be an RHS member. They also have copies of the Cottage Gardener as well.
For lawn mowers we have every page copied from every British periodical which was collated over 20 years ago.Makes me feel old even thinking about it!

well, had a great day ploughing, 99 points of a possible 140. vegi-junior got 83 as he did not quite finish. cant blame him as he was using a mk3 autogardener so done really well considering
