I have an old think pre war Citrigan welder, it has a large Capacitor, 1’ftX 6”inches 18”inch deep, I had turned the power off to work on a strip light, looking down from top of ladder could see my extension lead light still on, funny all power was turned off, welder was plugged in but not on, just a thought pulled the welder plug out and off went the lead light. so just bridged across the welders plug and quite a crack and spark, don’t think it would have done me much harm but up a ladder the fall might have been worse, had the welder looked at and the capacitor was wired in wrong side of switch and when switched off the capacitor wasn’t being discharged through the transformer, was told definitely not to touch the capacitor, what do you think the large two inch high porcelain insulators are for.

Engine runs well thats a bit of a miracle, petrol had completely gone just left sticky varnish residue, spent over 4hrs cleaning the carb, anyone want a 16hp twin could be seen running at moment while still in mower.

Got the H 16 home this morning its a 1668 model and serial 0501139, Its really been neglected, deck is shot looks like one bearing housing will be ok, tyres aren’t good as perished with cracks, most bits stuck, hydro-trans is very low on oil, engines oil ok but blacker than black, however steering not that worn, so will just brake it for bits and if the hydro is ok will just use that and bin the rest after have rebuilt the Howard Bolens with a V twin, so engine and framework and tin will be spare, had to take tank off to straiten the deck lift lever,

I don’t know exact model, but what could see had same hydro-axle as my other two a 1980 1058 Howard Bolens main part really good quality apart from the single Briggs engine, and a 1983-4 ish 1458 but has cheeper made bits, the Tecumseh engine was ok and economical but parts silly prices now with V twin, think will do the same with this other H 16. will go and pick it up once we have some rain to wash the salt off the roads will take a trailer and pick it up. the deck seems to be a little different, sharper edges mine looks more rounded, both my decks are good apart from righthand bearing housings as worn or corroded away one side did make a metal replacement and have a spare centre discharge I got for shafts and those bearing housings, note how they had bent the H16 lift lever, said they had oiled the knob but was hard to operate and can see why. Done some modifications to the other mowers Hydro drive and decks, since both have done nearly 30 years without being touched.

I hadn’t seen it and half expected to see a rather rust heap, but is quite clean, will see what the rest is like when I get it home, I like the lift lever sort of bent, said he kept oiling it and was stiff to get the button in, I wonder why.

Most likely awkward and would be Whit-worth but like earlier post measure the AF size to give both imperial and metric should be something to fit, I have old sockets and fit exactly, oddly new ones are a bit loose although marked the same and some marked with two sizes they fit, well they may fit one size but its ether going to be tight or loose, 3/4 inch whit roughly the same as 24mm but if correct the whit-worth should be a tight fit but made to fit 24mm so loose on the imperial size, typical of that will do engineering today.
