I made the mistake of over tightening those bolts on my Trusty and had to get the carrier welded, if you have a crack in yours it may have been over tightened in the past.

Benjamin, if the engine turns then it would be worth restoring, you may need new coil, points and condenser for the magneto if water has got in. First job would be to remove flywheel then strip and clean magneto, especially areas such as where coil attaches to back plate. Then reassemble, set points and fit flywheel so you can spin it over to see if you get a spark.
If engine is seized then it will be more work.

Looking at the Wipac magneto data I have the 576BZ bolts down onto a flat plate and was fitted to JAP 4/2, 5 & 6; the 936BZ has a two hole flange mounting and was used on JAP4/3.

Made by Hatch Brothers of Callington, Cornwall, circa 1950’s. Manufacturing rights later acquired by Wagstaff and Gladwell Ltd and sold as the WAGE, (information taken from 70 Years of Garden Machinery by Brian Bell).

Alan, the amount of literature and other records held in the archive is amazing. Looking at some of the Geo Monro items they hold I have been able to identify the SIMAR I have as a model 11. Well worth contacting them and arranging a visit to the reading room.

benjamin you need to resize photo files as they are too big, software such as shrinkpic will do the job and is free.

Looking at the photo of your Trusty it has an oil bath air filter and should have some oil in the bottom part. There should be a mark indicating the correct oil level.
