May 25, 2021 at 8:16 am #37256 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterLooking very smart. I see it has the optional large silencer rather than the standard pepper pot type. For control cables I buy inner and outer along with nipples, ferrules etc from motorcycle parts suppliers. I have used both Feked.com and Trialsbits. May 18, 2021 at 6:45 am #37190 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterLooks like a Honda to me. May 15, 2021 at 10:06 am #37174 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterThe part that has got lost is a drum nipple and the cable should be soldered to it. I have bought cable parts from both Feked and Trialsbits
Various guides on the internet showing how to solder control cables
Replacing the entire cable on Monrotiller is a bit of a pain as they run inside handlebar and through the cast mounting piece.May 6, 2021 at 8:44 am #37151 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterYou should be able to buy chain by the foot/yard/metre. All you need to know are the dimensions, see following for what the dimensions are Renolds Chain May 5, 2021 at 10:56 am #37145 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterA repair like that is all part of the machines history and demonstrates the old ideal of mend and repair, unlike the throw away society we now live in. May 2, 2021 at 8:40 am #37122 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterI was able to get a new air filter assembly from Meetens for a few years ago.
Controls should be throttle on righthand side, on the left lever for swinging handlebars left and right, underneath is clutch lever.
On my Monro Minor the locking mechanism for handle bar swing was seized.
I have no information on dates of production or serial numbers. A magazine article I have from Amateur Gardening dated 15th Sept 1962 suggests it was a new model then.
Later versions produced by Mechanised Gardening of Great Gransden, were called the Crunchtiller and had a different engine.April 30, 2021 at 1:24 pm #37089 charlieKeymasterApril 30, 2021 at 7:55 am #37082 charlieKeymasterApril 30, 2021 at 7:55 am #37082 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterLooking at the engine number, 2AC12766CS, I would say it is a JAP 2A, dating from 1948. See this webpage for how engine numbering works. April 28, 2021 at 6:29 am #37064 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterWelcome. The Rotoscythe engine may not be a Villiers, I know early Rotoscythe machines used a Bux engine.
If you could post a photo of your Monrotiller and if it has it the machine number I can date it and give you some more information. Monrotillers are my speciality. It might be worth starting a new forum post for the Monrotiller.April 26, 2021 at 8:04 am #37045 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterYou need to compress the photo files, they are currently too large to see guide go to https://vhgmc.co.uk/forums/topic/compressing-photo-files-using-ms-office-picture-manager/ April 21, 2021 at 7:07 am #37011 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterIn the absence of any spec for the battery I would suggest factors to consider are physical size, location of terminals and Ah capacity, as large as possible. I am not sure how the use will impact on type of battery ie traction motor rather a car battery which needs to start the engine and is then charged by the alternator. April 19, 2021 at 7:21 am #36999 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterGary, you need to compress the photo file, see https://vhgmc.co.uk/forums/topic/compressing-photo-files-using-ms-office-picture-manager/ for guidance. April 17, 2021 at 6:52 pm #36969 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterThe Barford literature does not have dates apart from the price lists. The Barford Power Scythe leaflet has rev 12.58 on it and the printers ref is EJJJ 10970.2.60 CP which could be Feb 1960.
The serial numbers on the two Power Scythes are :-
 403-C5 with engine number 998A 28025
926-C9 with engine number 998A 44857April 17, 2021 at 6:25 pm #36968 charlieKeymaster charlieKeymasterThe one I have was electric start, but I have not bothered replacing the battery which died years ago. It has the screw type height adjuster.
