Just to complete my post, this is the Charlton Kings Engineering spec. sheet. The 10cwt Merry Tiller Truck is most like the Barford one. I think they made trailers for garden tractor….

Yes, I certainly don’t blame Brian Bell, I think it was a simple Typo, probably should read 1950, though I have no evidence that they were around that early. I was also a bit puzzled that it was Four Oaks that held the patent for the wheel ratchets, when Mayfield had been using them for years before 1960.

Here’s a picture of Ron Manners’ trailer. I believe they may have been made by Charlton Kings Engineering in Cheltenham. That firm made the Merry Truck. I say this because many of the features of the Atom trailer were common to the Merry Tiller one.

My Dad did buy one in 1946, BYA 918, 1936 model, cost him £80 with no engine or interior as it had been used as a chicken coop through the war! Army blankets were used for the headlining! When we went to the seaside in it we waved at other cars! Not many about then!
That engine and box was used in the Anzani Iron Horse….

Homebrew Jobby, made from a Stanhay push seeder grafted to a Merry Tiller. It’s the Blue and Red item in the middle of this picture taken at the West Country Game Fair 2014. it is owned by Roy Watts (left) of Somerset, also in the picture is Sue and John Philips..

A good point Owen, there was never a planter made for the Merry Tiller, at least not in my catalogue but you could tow a Planet or similar behind it. Charlie has two to go behind his Barford Atom and Dashwood made some under the Whitwood name for the Colwood…
There now, that’s got you looking!
