MemberI have a machine very similar to this but it says type 30 B and No is 13760.
As any body know how old this would be ? also it requires a Barrel and Piston and there is lots of play in big end , Magneto is also missing , should I give it up as a bad Job ?November 17, 2013 at 8:18 pm #3161vhgmcbuddy

MemberIm sure a carb kit will help, however in my experience with small engines( I used to overhaul 3-4 Hondas or similar every day for several years)The valves need to be spot on or the carb is often blamed because they rely on the seats being good to create the vacum which sucks the petrol in. The exhaust valve is often by its nature a lot worse than the inlet, but solong as youve got a valve spring compressor should take less than an hour to relap them in.

Memberwill check that out gareth but when I first looked in the bore it did not look bad,but as you say will have another look when the head comes off. looks as if this engine is going to get some special treatment but I would like it to run but do not want to go overboard . Just gone out to shed and put my hand over exhaust while I turned engine over by hand and the compression feels good for a small engine,i now have convinced myself that the carb kit has to be the first expense.

MemberBeen a bit pushed this weekend but have cleaned up the main gearbox shaft and fitted the rebuilt clutch to it. Took a while to clean the threads with a small file as they seem to of picked up a clout in storage, everything ok now though. Sorry no pictures as camera died. Just been and bought a new one- they haven’t half come down in price! A 16 megapixel for less than a third of the price I paid for a 6mega pixel a few years back. Will take some shots as soon as its finished charging.

MemberAlso is the cylinder glazed, a quick hone may help with possibly a new set of rings.

MemberThanks. I have my trailers and stationary engines insured with Walker Midgley, I’ll give them a ring and see what they can do.
