It might be taking longer John, but your end results are looking good. I don’t do much evenings being retired I have time though the day. My shed has concrete walls and floor once that gets cold it would make a good fridge. On winter days when the sunshine’s I sometimes revert to the greenhouse to do a bit of tinkering.

These cold evenings just put you off going to the cold shed,but we are made of sturner stuff and have been beavering away at the engine for the last week.
with the temp being low the paint which I am putting on with the brush is taking 2 to 3 days to dry. but spray paint in cans is only a matter of overnight. this is as far as I have got this evening.

good to see another mower project in the making. they make a change from the norm. steve d has one of these and he could have a handbook if you go for it,ie a full blown restoration.

This guy who’se a small engine mechanic told me to pour a spoonfull of fuel into behind the air filter. If it then ‘starts’ for a little while or something similar, then it’s a failure to get fuel issue. I did this and nothing. I did get the odd puff of smoke and a slight ‘bang’ but nothing. Does this mean that it’s likely an electrical issue although the spart plug does spark?

Probably dates from the 1960’s with the Ali handles and that type of exhaust. I’ve got a 17″ one fom 1957/8 that I’ve never got to run tidy as the crank no longer seals on the case, could be repaired but never felt it was work the expense of boring and bushing the crankcase. The box on yours looks very sound.

The good news is I’m slowly on the mend and have got my sense of taste back overnight..

So the plan is to buy a 5/8″ x 1″ x 1″ bearing and turn it down to 15/16. The second bearing won’t need turning down so I will get a 5/8″ x 7/8″ x 5/8″.
