Thanks will-haggle,sadly still not the same type.
Mine is definatly a Jap C80/f engine.
The end of the main shaft has a dog screwed onto the mag.housing.
You have to push a spring loaded pin through the recoil to engage with this dog and then pull the cable.
Due to rust and alloy corrosion the recoil casting is in two bits.
It has a steel spring inside it like the old wind up gramaphones.
Pictures of the recoil starter are on the old website.

The Trac grip is a model “PB” 3 wheeled pedestrian machine. I have only ever seen a couple of Trac grip machines at rallies and these have been bigger ride one models.

Thanks for trying to help Charlie.
I have known this machine from new, as it belongs to my local allotment club.
It is as orginal and has never been modified, but noboby seems to have seen this type of pull start. I think I may have asked Meetens in the past with no luck.
I keep hoping to find a second Japc80 that has one on.
The engine, although 60 y.0 has never been run for long periods or had heavy use so it is generally in good nick. I estimate it has done no more than the equivalent of 200 miles in its life.

hi all, now that i vegi-junior and i have settled in back home from a very busy weekend at biddenden tractorfest i would like to thank everyone for coming and help make the horticultural section truly amazing with 92 exhibits !!!. also the great effort to those who turned the old manure site into a newly seeded plot for the land owner who was most greatful and has already introduced me to next years working area! which is even bigger. this year was so much bigger than last year and quite a challenge for me to put this section together as this was only my second attempt at organising a show section, with this in mind i would like to thank steve d and paul mackellow for their help and support building up to and during the show. last but not least i would like to thank veg-junior for being teaboy, runner and entertainer even after his clifford spat out a starting handle and fixed him right on the chin!.congratulations to rob farmer who won the first “oily rag trophy” with his wrigley display.
oh and andy frost deserves a special thank you, after a long day at work he still made it on friday evening after being stuck on the a12 in essex for what must of felt like a lifetime.
again thank you to all involved

Hi, I cant help you with the serial numbers but the date of the engine is usually stamped on the outer edge of Villiers flywheels.

Do you not think the engine running would give the game away ?
