vhgmcbuddyMemberWell , It,s a thought, but I have notices up warning of CCTV monitoring, and it makes no difference, It,s the CONTEMPT they have for us and the police that I find difficult, they know the Police are not interested any more in”Low Value” break ins so it goes from bad to worse, I have ordered two more 12 Bore “Alarm Mines” from Henry Krank, that will at least wake up all the Dogs in the village when they go off!.

vhgmcbuddyMemberDear Neil,
For the engine I have find Motul oil SAE30 (mineral and monograde).
For the gearbox can I use oil 20W50 (multigrade) or Motul oil SAE50 (mineral and monograde) is more recommended ?Could you send me the completed references of the 3 differents oil you use (I not an OIL expert)
Regards

vhgmcbuddyMemberIt is a pity that I have no mains electricity to the barn, because there is some quite clever alarm systems these days, and they are not too expensive, you can even watch inside your property While you are away on your phone, and some will send you an alert when movement is detected, but they all require mains electricity, I am thinking of installing a “Wildlife camera that is battery operated, at least then we will have pictures of the riff raff to show the police.

vhgmcbuddyMemberSteve Woollas warned me about letting you anywhere near my Trusty, Geoff. Something about you filling the petrol tank on one of his Trusty’s with “The Good Stuff”, after which the engine refused to run at all!!!
Seriously though, I appreciate the offer of help, but I am sure that I just need to fettle the carb a touch. The magneto is fine, as I had it professionally rebuilt. My only other concern is the amount of compression. With spark plug out, engine turns over without too much effort. Plug in is a different story. I can drag the entire tractor (with plough attached) towards me when pulling the starting strap. I can just about manage 2 complete revolutions of the engine (i.e. one complete 4 stroke cycle). Is this normal? The piston rings are new, being gapped at 0.030″ for the compression rings and 0.008″ for the oil scraper ring. The engine manual gives a compression ratio figure of 4.8, so I think I will borrow a compression tester and see what’s what.August 4, 2015 at 5:09 pm #13949
vhgmcbuddyMemberGlad you got the Norton running without too many problems. Three years after starting the rebuild of mine, I have still yet to get the engine to run. I am now feeling inspired to give it another go. I did get it to blow smoke rings from the exhaust on each pull, until it kicked back and snapped the starting strap (again!!)

vhgmcbuddyMemberDear Charlie,
I am new to this forum so please forgive me if I am misbehaving by replying to this thread.
I have one of these machines and would be extremely grateful if you could let me have a copy of the manual as well. I am struggling to get it going and really want to so that it can complement my beast of an Allen Scythe.
Thank you very much,
Richard.July 26, 2015 at 10:28 am #13897

vhgmcbuddyMemberDear all,
Thanks to this forum and Neil JARRETT, I succeeded to start my crawler Ransomes MG6. Here is what I have done before setting the valve at 0,15 mm : I removed the wick holder and I placed the push rod out of position when adjusting the valve.
It is marvellous , I am very very happy.
Here is the the machine no MK6 13699
and the Drayton engine no (ALPRO M34362636 34R /24/E )
and my email is delval_michael@yahoo.fr (for private contact)I have now two simple questions :
Where is the oil filter on the Drayton Engine ?
What type of oil (available in France) should I use for the gear box, the engine, the air filter ?
What type of grease should I use ?MIKE26 (a french who likes reliable and nice mechanic)

vhgmcbuddyMemberHi all,
Can anyone tell me what capacitance value I should read across the capacitor.
And, presumably I should be able to see the points spark on the magneto, as per a distributor?
Another query relating to the Amal carb. With the air induction pipe off, and the emulsion tube removed. If you look down the venturi with the choke open you can see a brass collar protruding up into the venturi by what looks to be just under 10mm. Is this normal? The emulsion tube inserts inside this. Should this be tapped down flush? – what is it?
I seem to just be getting a ‘river’ of fuel in the carb and inlet manifold, which is not helping.. Any thoughts? Perhaps this is perfectly normal..
